It's hot. Like Africa hot.

I know it's summer and I live in Texas, but every year I'm always surprised by how hot it is. This year is exceptionally hot. And because I live in Amarillo, it's windy, too. And there's a drought, so every time I step outside it's as if someone's trained a hair dryer on me. It's just gross, is what it is.

However, let me just say praise God for air conditioning. I've been sewing blankets and a quilt for a friend's baby shower, and the thought of covering up a baby with them right now makes me actually break into a sweat. (I also made a dozen kitty cat tails for Ethan's theatre camp. All that did was make me smile.)

Despite how hot it's been, I've spent the last week looking for a fall outfit to wear for this magazine interview/photoshoot I've got tomorrow morning. (The article comes out in September, so I thought wearing a sleeveless sundress wouldn't be quite right.) Do you know how hard it is to find a fall outfit when it's a BILLION degrees outside? It's almost nine o' clock in the evening right now, and it's still like the surface of the sun out there.

Anyhow, so I bought a fall dress. It's really cute. But the thought of actually putting it and a pair of boots on and then going outside makes me want to die a little.

Yet I will. Because being cute and in season is important.

Probably. A little.

You sweat for your art, is what it all boils down to.

Feel free to quote me on that.

Let me remind you that Monday, it was 80 degrees here.

West Texas is where Mother Nature has her mood swings.
AND we're all out of Swiss Miss.

Luckily, I know how to do it from scratch. And now, so do you.

I just took some unpleasant meds that are sure to knock me out, so this post is kind of like being on a countdown... like I've got to get it typed before I zonk.

It's a snow day, today. We got about 8 inches and the boys are home. Ethan would've have been anyway, because he has strep. You just whisper the word strep around that kid and he gets it. Anyway, it's still snowing. And the wind is blowing, surprise, surprise. That means drifts as tall as me.  Not that that is all that impressive...

I just wanted to remind everyone that THIS CONTEST is open until the end of January. Drabble me! Give me something to read while I'm snowed in.

And... the drugs are kicking in.  Not focusing anymore.  Pray that this headache get's it's ass kicked.  :)

See y'all on the flip side.

I have had, as Nolan would say, a little hitch in my giddyup.

I woke up this morning to a rockin' headache, and after Nolan found me asleep in my office chair, he made me take a nap. I ended up sleeping for four and a half hours. Four and a half non-writing hours. *cough*

There is also snow here. It snowed about six inches this morning, early. The boys made a snowman, and some little ass already knocked it down. Some people, man.

That's all. I'm hunkering down and pounding out the last six and a half thousand words.

See ya on the flip side.

I got all 'Little House on the Prairie' again. :D  I went from gorgeous, perfectly ripe apricots...

To beautiful jars of jam... all within a few hours, and for less than $8.  Move over, Ma Ingalls.  I got it covered.

Rather than give you the step by step, which you can see here, I thought I'd share a bulleted list of  other random stuff:
  • [ profile] seegrim  and I are going to rock the Mile High Music Festival this weekend.  I've been writing with the woman for nearly two years, talking to her nearly every day since December of '07, and spending hours and hours on the phone.  It's about time I met her face to face!
  • It's raining.  Hallelujah.
  • I fell while on my walk yesterday (oh, yeah, I'm graceful) & my hand is messed up.  Silly Carrie.
  • I've clocked something like 140 miles walked since the beginning of May.  Get smaller, rear end!
  • I get my grey roots colored tomorrow.  Seriously.  SERIOUSLY.  Enough with the 'growing old' crap.
  • I've been doing lots of painting, lately.  It's SO good for me. I love it.  Soothes my chi or whatever.
  • I've also been doing lots of writing.  I entered the [ profile] ronpansy_fest  with [ profile] seegrim  and the [ profile] dgficexchange  with [ profile] mynuet , and both are pretty solid efforts.  I was pleased.  So YAY for that.
  • I was a runner up in the [ profile] dg_ldws  this round.  Was fun and challenging.  I learned that I'm too wordy for a limit.
  • five weeks til I have to stand next to my SIL in a swimsuit.  I wish phenfen didn't cause me to die. :(
  • six weeks til my punks go back to school.  Come on, August.
Tell me something cool, f-list.  What's been happening?

I'm an idiot.

I know, I know, I've said it before, but this time it's true.

We're having lots of thunderstorms and nasty weather here in the Texas panhandle, and I've been opening the wondows in the house so that I can listen to the rain, because seriously? It doesn't rain here, like ever. So when we get it, it's like a treat.

My internet has been kind of spotty due to the storms, and so I didn't think anything of it when I turned on the TV to get the weather and all I got was snow. I thought, "Huh. Channel 7 must be having issues."

Not so. It was me. I'm the one having issues.

It wasn't until I was having a lunch meeting with my employer and fellow teachers this afternoon that I realized... television went digital here in the states SIX days ago.

We don't have one of those box thingys or cable, and our TVs are both over 12 years old, so we get nada. Zip. Zero.

That's how much TV I watch.

So. The dilemma? Do I get cable? Or a box converter dealy? A new, fancy flatscreen? Or do I just download what I want to watch and squint at the computer screen? Decisions, decisions.
persephone33: (Frank the creepy ass owl)
( Jun. 1st, 2009 11:13 pm)
He remembers you.

No, I'm kidding. But I think I seriously just creeped myself out.

Anyhoo, Frank still sits in the back garden mocking me, although he's getting a little overrun with daylilies and roses.

I hope he has allergies, the bastard.

*cough* Long story short for those new to the f-list, I have a creepy statuary owl named Frank (click the tag) in the backyard that stalks me from time to time.

What? Doesn't everyone?

So I get this email yesterday from a friend who lives all the way across town:
Subject: An owl

I just wanted to let you know that I have a friend of yours on the porch across the street that just stares at me. I need to take a picture and send it to you. I think it could be your owl's brother. Creepy!!

Maybe I'll see you tomorrow at the pool!

Dear God in Heaven above, they're BREEDING.

And I checked. It isn't Frank, moonlighting in someone else's yard. I looked and he's still out there.

And a totally unrelated picture of some freaking cool Texas Panhandle clouds )

( Dec. 7th, 2007 09:28 pm)

Because I know you all care SO much, here is my stunning living room, in all it's Christmas decorated glory.

So I'm out Christmas shopping again today, and I walk out of the store and go to my cute, black, Toyota Sequoia, Colin (Firth, not Creevey).  I open up the back, and stand there openmouthed, stunned that all of the packages that I'd bought so far this morning were GONE.  I stood there thinking, "I've been robbed. (*insert big bad words*) Someone stole all of those Christmas presents. " (About $300 worth...  It was a sickening feeling.)  Then I thought, "Why does my car smell like french fries?  I haven't had any french fries.  And what is all this crap spilling out of the storage compartment?"

Long story short, it wasn't my car.

Mine was parked two spaces down, locked.

I closed the back of the imposter Sequoia, and left quickly.

[personal profile] airmidm, I can fulfill one of your Christmas list wishes, but I'll need that address.  :D

[profile] reenie1, I just need to get a box and go to the UPS store.  :D

We're about to get a buttload of crappy weather...  Sunday night there's supposed to be snow, ice, sleet, more ice....  *glares at mother nature*  Can't it hold off?  I've got stuff to do next week!  (Update:  The house is coming along:  there's sheetrock, the brick's done, and they're texturing the walls.  It's conceivable that we may be in by next December.  Just kidding.  But it'll probably be March.)

The in-laws have the kids.  We had dinner ALONE.  'Twas lovely.  :)

We had a "Malfoy Moment" earlier today. ;)

Nolan didn't so much help at the garage sale, as stand in the back and make snarky comments about everyone. And it's not like he could help it.  Good heavens.  It does, truly, take all kindsYIKES.  Our play takes place today in the windy Texas panhandle... where 75 mile per hour gusts are not necessarily hyperbole.

(Looking out at it all, Nolan  has a distasteful look on his face.  I walk over to him )

Carrie.  Hey, we've gone to garage sales over the years.  Do we look like that? (points covertly at what looks like perhaps the dregs of humanity)

Nolan.  (grimaces)  Gah, no!   We're much prettier than they are.

Carrie.  Oh, thank God.

Nolan.  (nods sagely)

(The later, I hear him mutter)

Nolan.  (glares and growls at weird man from his spot at very back of garage) This isn't a bus stop, pal.  No standing around without buying something.  Go to the public library if you want to browse.  (Carrie loves Nolan.  He makes me LAUGH.)

Anyway, it's all over.  Go sell crazy somewhere else.  We're all stocked up, here.  Oh, and [personal profile] rainpuddle13?  We've had a forecast for SNOW tomorrow!  =D

The weather cleared up, and my family left, and thus I get to have a little get together at my house tonight!  YAY!  If only I didn't have to endure 2 hours at the theatre beforehand.

On other matters entirely...  *g*
persephone33: (Pfft.)
( Apr. 14th, 2007 08:28 am)
They didn't leave.

Because it SNOWED last night (makes roads impossible around the cabin).  Seriously, Mother nature?  Am done with cold weather.  AND my open-toed black silk slingbacks got a water spot on them.

I really am going to try to not be annoyed that my family is in their home.  They do, after all, live here.
persephone33: (think my name's funny)
( Mar. 30th, 2007 02:47 pm)
Yesterday I wore a miniskirt & flip flops.

Right now, it's SNOWING.

Welcome to the weather in the Texas panhandle.  Don't like it?  Wait 5 minutes.  It'll change.
Opening night went well, Cecily and I actually got EXIT APPLAUSE (when an actor exits and the scene isn't over, yet the audience decides to interrupt it with applause for the leaving actors)!  It's rare, and it rocks, and it's been about 4 years since it's happened to me.  So yay for that.

Unfortunately, last night's performance and today's matinee were called due to weather.  Our town got 9 inches of snow dumped on it, and the theatre didn't think that the Box Office would cover the royalties.  So yuk.  I did go to the cast party on Friday night and had a fabulous time...  theatre people are NUTS!  But woke up yesterday with a horrible cold plus a scratchy throat that has now settled in my chest.  So, all in all, it's worked out for the best, I guess.  No one wants a stuffy Gwendolyn.  And my voice has dropped an octave, which makes me sound a little like Oscar, actually. :)

They've added a show on Wednesday, which means Tuesday will be a line through (horribly boring, as actors just vomit out lines as fast as they can without doing any interpretation or any of the movements ).

I've already got a little cabin fever, and I'm sure I'll get dragged out to make a snowman at some point today...

( Dec. 20th, 2006 09:16 am)
Thundersnow?  Is that even a meteorological term?  I think the guy on channel ten is making crap up.

We've had some very wintry weather...  all the snow from the last storm finally melted, and then it started raining yesterday with below freezing temperatures.  Last night it snowed, only about 2 inches, but enough to dust eveything and make it absolutely beautiful. However, what this left us with was a half an inch of solid ice covered with a dusting of snow, which makes for horrible driving conditions.  Was school cancelled?  No, it was not.  I won't even comment.  I will share pretty pics, though.

Icy snow )

The icon today is in giddy anticipation of my becoming a redhead again!  Hubby is even taking care of the boys while this happens, as I don't want to drive to the MIL's house (it really is over the river and through the woods) in this weather.

And I got my first piece of international mail ever!  Thanks [personal profile] dragonsangel68!  How fun!
