persephone33: (Snowmen Stickup)
persephone33 ([personal profile] persephone33) wrote2007-12-06 02:24 pm

You know how I kind of dislike Christmas?

So I bought stuff today.  A LOT of stuff.  I spent a lot of money that wasn't mine (or at least didn't come directly out of my personal checking account).  I think I got about $600 worth of CG's for the company Christmas party and 10 'girly gifts' per Nolan's request.  I suppose the wives aren't being fairly represented by all of the other gift certificates.  I have more to do tomorrow, but look at what I bought for me:

This is the style of the dress I bought, but mine's black silk with dark bronze swirls.  Too freaking cute.  I'm not a blonde, though.  Or that skinny.  *sigh*

And I got these shoes.  Black velvet open toed pumps.  I love them to itty bitty pieces.

So I will be all kinds of cute at the company Christmas Party.  Where no one will sit with us, because no one likes the boss.  *sigh*  Luckily, I have other friends, and there are major perks to sleeping with the boss.  *wink*

So I'm at the mall today trying on that dress, and I couldn't get it zipped by myself.  I sigh heavily, and go out of the dressing room to find a salesgirl to help me out, and while she was zipping me, popping her gum and rolling her eyes, this little old woman (like in her 70's) comes out of the dressing room in this truly hideous jacket.  That's she's trying on.  I give the three-way mirror a glance, decide the dress is for me, (Because I'm a purchaser, not a shopper) and head back to put my clothes back on.  The woman smiles at me and tells me that the dress is pretty, and pleasantries are exchanged, blah, blah.  Anyway, she asks me what I think of her jacket, ( she was singing in a Christmas pageant, and had to have a  jacket tonight) and I panicked a little, because, truly, if she was my grandma, I would've ripped it off her and stomped on it, and maybe, maybe set it on fire.  It was that bad.

I said something innocuous, I honestly don't remember what...  I didn't lie, but I wasn't exactly truthful, either, because that would've sounded something like, "No.  Exactly how many turkeys were destroyed to make that jacket?"  Anyhow, I get dressed and come back out of the dressing room, and the little old lady is standing there, looking helplessly at all these jackets.  The salesgirl (who by now has put on her ipod and is texting someone) is obviously going to be of no help to this woman, so I sigh and go over to her.  I helped her picked out four jackets that would go well with her coloring, and she went in to try them on.  I went to buy the dress, nearly beheaded the salesgirl (she would have totally never seen it coming) and in the mean time, the little old lady comes out of the dressing room and shows me her stuff.  After my transaction, I went back over to help the little old lady (who's name was Audrey, btw) make her final decision, and she started crying a little, and told me that her daughter and grand-daughter hadn't had time to come and shop with her today, and that me taking time out of my day meant a lot to her.

And then she hugged me.

So I almost started crying in the middle of Dillard's, which, you know, is really SO not my style.

And then I remembered that not all people are giant throbbing asses, and that I shouldn't want to be one myself, either.

Merry Christmas, y'all.

I teared up even HEARING about the little old lady.

:(

Gosh, this sounds so horrible, but old people who are alone make so so sad!

You're a wonderful person for helping her. Really. :)

You are going to look so cute at the Christmas party!

How sweet of you *hugs*

Bless you for being a kind person. Older folks get so overlooked and ignored, I know she really must have appreciated your help.

And I see that comment about being old in five years. *raises a brow* I'm the same age as you, and I don't intend to be old for quite some time. Thankyouverymuch!

I always want to cry when I hear stories like that. When I watch movies with helpless old people, I seriously can hardly stand it.

I was reading your story and was like, "help her! Help her!"

I like you a heck of a lot more now (not that I didn't like you before, but .... whatever. You get it).

I heart those shoes so hard!! They would so go with my new "Holiday" dress......did you get those at Dillards?

You are such an angel....that was good karma rolled in caramel, dipped in chocolate, and dotted with holiday sprinkles. What a wonderful thing you did for her today. Thanks for sharing that story, it totally got me in the real Christmas spirit.

Ooops! Sorry, that was me.....this whole logging on thing seems to be more than I can handle today. ;)

Or club an idiot salesgirl...

You know, I'm all about being an equal opportunity bitch, but I tend to be rather forgiving of and protective of the elderly. It really pisses me off when people aren't good to them, so GOOD FOR YOU for stepping up today. Good God work, good Karma, what have you. Just think...now you can flip like three people off in traffic and feel justified!

In other good news, I received a beautiful new Katie Melua CD in the mail courtesy of velvetcherri as a direct result of my Christmas wish list that I would not have done were it not for you. It was truly a gift and truly a surprise (I expected cheap burned disks like the one I made for you). I'm not spending money on ME this month for obvious reasons and music eats up so much of my funds...it was just wonderful, wonderful to get the CD and be exposed to new sounds and everything.

Plus, it's nice to feel liked/loved/appreciated. So look...you sewed more good seeds this week. Get on with your bad self.

Okay, so tell Nolan for me that the next time he says you aren't sweet, I'm hopping a plane to Amarillo and kicking his arse, for you really are beyond sweet. You, Miss Carrie, are a bona fide good, good person. I'm glad I know you.

Thank you so much for treating one of "my kind" like a real person. Your sister and I had a similar experience in Annapolis in last time I was there where an elderly lady needed to be saved from a bad dress choice and the salesgirl was telling her it looked great. It felt really good to help her. Luvya, Mom

Aw...

Also: What does Nolan do?

Carrie - you make me tear up at the SAME TIME as making me want to cackle out loud. IN fact, my snickers over the turkey comment woke Jay up - so now I have to get off the net. LOL! it was worth it - and I'm SO glad you helped her (and bought such cute SHOES! SOOO cute! (the dress is cute too -- but the SHOES!!))

Anyway -- you're adorable. *smooches*

Awww, Carrie played Santa Claus. That was so sweet of you! *hugs*

Oh, you. I don't need to say anything because everyone already covered how wonderful you are. But I will, because I think you're fantabulistic. Sales assistants should so totally not be allowed to chew gum and roll their eyes at customers. The rudeness! I'm glad you helped that lady. And yay for her being so sweet too! You two should have leaked your sweetness onto the salesgirl so that she'd be nice to all future clients. How likely do you think that is?

Dress is pretty (I want to see it on you) and I'm dying for those shoes. I have pumps like those, but they're plain black leather, no bow. Can you get Ethan to take a picture of you and Nolan before the party? Pretty please?
