If you have a really long telephone cord, you can plug it into the NID thingie on the side of the house (thus bypassing the knocked-loose thingie under the house) and bring it into the house through a window or a door. You'd only have the one phone, but one phone that is not your cell phone would be a good thing, no?
Also, do you have your C of O on the new place yet? If yes, then you can move in and shuffle stuff around for the last few weeks until the house is completed.
