Sometimes, stubbornness is a good thing.

For those of you that don't know, I have a weird diet.  Diet in the sense of the food I eat, not a weight loss regime, necessarily.  It has been exactly one year since I changed my diet.  It started out as a spiritual fast, but morphed into a way of life, I think.  All I know is that I feel so much better, have more energy and don't pack on the pounds like I did before I ate this way.  I don't eat any meat (no, not even chicken or fish -- that's meat), any bread, or any sweets.  I get asked, "What's left?"  I eat veggies and fruit, dairy products, pasta and rice, and of course Mexican food.  Have I lost weight doing this?  Yup.  About 40 pounds.  I started last April at 181 (That's a lot when you're 5'2") and weighed in this morning at 138.  (I'm a four time Weight Watcher Droput, btw) Would I like to lose another 10?  Kind of, but I don't know if that 10 lbs would make that much of a difference anyway.  I mean, my skin isn't as elastic as it used to be, so I don't need more sag than I already have, right?  Anyway, the weight isn't the best thing.  The best thing is that I have the energy to keep up with the boys and live my life, and I have no plans to change anything.  I think it annoys some people, that I don't eat certain things, but I've never had a problem anywhere that I've gone, finding something I can eat.  And it's much easier to get full.  One year.  Wow.  I don't think I've stuck to anything for a year before.  Go me.  It isn't so much self-control as it is a stubborn streak a mile wide.  I gotta be me.

I got my prompt for the [community profile] dgficexchangethis morning.  It is, blessedly, very vague.  Yay.  It's due on Ethan's birthday.  Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

The theatre is doing Into The Woods next season for the first show.  I'm not a singer, but I'd sell my Grandmother into white slavery to play a role in that musical.  (Sorry, Grandma, but I totally would.  I'd pay to get you out once it was over.) Little Red Riding Hood, especially.  I've been listening to the music for the last two days...  and there is NO WAY that I can hit some of those notes without medicinal help.  I'm contemplating taking voice lessons, actually.  What else do I have to do this summer?  Besides vacation (Going to NYC with Mom & Sister -- YAY!) and lay by the pool?  That sounded bratty.  Sorry.  Anyway, Into the Woods is one of my favorites of all time; Act One is wickedly funny, one of the best books around, with a Sondheim score (stinking hard music) and Act Two has huge lessons and morals.  The best kind of theatre.  It makes you laugh, and then makes you think.  I want it so bad I can taste it.  And that's never good.  I guess I have three months to learn how to get up above my small range.  Here I go!

Go you! I'm 5'1" (and a half!) and could stand to lose 100 lbs or so. I don't think I could manage your diet, but serious props to you for finding something that works for you and sticking to it!

The halfs are important! I'm 5'2and 1/2 inch when I've slept properly and all my vertebrae are nicely aligned.

Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone. And it does suck some of the joy out of eating...

*sigh* I wish I could do that. I'm a 2 time Weight Watcher drop out. I actually lost 10 pounds on my own in 3 months, but than I came to Germany, and I think I've gained weight. I'm so sad. I'm 186 at 5'2 (and only 16 years old) and I really wish I could bring it down. When I get home, I really think I'm going to try what you said. No meat, just veggies and dairy and fruits. I'm determined to bring down my weight before college. The only thing is, I can't seem to stick to something. I'll try though, I really will.

/end silly rant.

:P Sorry about that. But good luck getting the part! I know you'll do fabulous! ;)

Make sure you get enough protein still if you go veggie... beans, nuts, eggs, etc. I know how hard it is to lose. It's been a struggle my whole life.

Yeah, I'll keep that in mine. Its been hard trying to diet here because they're eating system is so different. They eat big lunchs instead of big dinners (which in the long run is a good thing, but at first made me hungry at night right before I went to bed, which is bad because everything I ate then, I didnt get a chance to 'burn' off before I went to bed) See with me. The first few months, I'm all pumped, I even manage to lose a medium amount of weight. Then once it levels off (it always does no matter what you do - big weight loss, than it pretty much stops and you have to work harder) and I'd get discouraged and stop. But I'm determined to be 140 before my 18th birthday. That gives me a year and some change, so we'll see how it goes.

Oh My GOSH! I think I love my food too much to do that. But YAY for you! I'm about 5'6" and a litle on the chubby side... so 40 lbs would be brilliant.... hmmm... but I'd have to give up Alberta Beef.

Nope. Don't think I could do it. ;)

And I'm really excited that you're happy about your prompt. id I already know that Beth and Ethan share a birthday? I probably did. But YAY for kids' birthdays on fic due dates! ;)

It was tough at first but now, meh, that's just how it is.

The date is easy to remember!

*is doing that diet now* I'm 5'0" and kinda chunky for my height. I chunky dunk rather than skinny dip.

*hugs to you*

[identity profile] persephone33.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That's funny. Chunky dunk. Heh. I don't ever think I'll be defined as "skinny". I don't even think I want to be. If you do this diet, (which is probably uneccessary) make sure you eat enough protein! Beans, nuts, eggs, peanut butter...

[identity profile] lyndsiefenele.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds kinda like my diet, only I didn't have a choice. It does work, though. I think (before I ate all my wheat-free cookies) that I lost around 5lbs in three weeks. In my case I had to cut out bread and stuff because I'm allergic to it, so I feel a lot better - I lot clearer headed, too. That could just be because I'd basically been having one giant allergic reaction for the last two years.

I don't know that I actually need to lose too much weight (I'm 5'7" about 145) - I really should start working out to get some tone, though.

I'm glad that you're sticking to it! I would totally have failed already except for the allergy part enforcing it.

[identity profile] persephone33.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, to be 5'7". It's a dream of mine. Not even in my tallest heels, though.

Working out is good. I don't enjoy it, but it's a necessary evil.

[identity profile] elle-blessing.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That's so awesome that you've been able to stick with your diet for that long *is impressed* I've wanted to do something similar or eat how my boyfried does (he's allergic to wheat products, dairy products, red meat, eggs and garlic), just cut something out that I know will make a difference in how I feel. The thing is, is that I don't eat horrible to begin with...I don't like candy or sweets that much and I eat everything else in pretty good proportion. And I'm an athlete, so I can't just cut stuff out. *sigh* Next New Year will be the perfect time for a resolution because I will be done with competitive soccer forever!

It sucks when you eat healthily and you still don't lose weight. I think, "What else can I give up? What else am I willing to give up. I've been on a major plateau for about 2 months. Ah, well. What're ya gonna do?

[identity profile] caramelsilver.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
when you say mexican food, what do you mean? 'cause in my mind mexican food has meat in'em.
Do you mind if I friended you?

[identity profile] persephone33.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
