Conversation with a Kindergartener
( I get home from picking Aaron home from school, and get him a snack, as per usual. I set out a baggie of cut up fruit, and put a handful of goldfish crackers in front of him.)
Aaron. (sighs heavily, picking up the baggie of fruit) Needs before wants.
Me. What?
Aaron. You have to put your needs before your wants. (Shakes baggie at me) I need these. (disdainfully) Goldfish are a want.
Me. I see.

You know, there's nothing like a five year old for teaching you a major life lesson. Of course, then he did this:

My little brainiac niece, Sheridan, on the other hand, was playing while her dad and a friend discussed investment and wealth-building and whatnot nearby. When the friend asked Richard (my BIL) to define financial freedom, then-two-year old Sheridan spouted 'When your passive income exceeds your expenses.' Richard used to read to her from the Rich Dad books every night when she was little. I adore my niece, but once in awhile she scares me a little.

I hate it when they totally call me out on something I've done that's wrong.
And I really don't like it when they're smarter than I am. I fear I'll have to get used to disappointment.

Does he allow his food to touch on his plate? Because that is something I simply cannot abide by!

(I love "All Along the Watchtower." Dylan called Jimi's cover of it the definitive version, and I totally agree.)
