I spent yesterday in bed feeling icky, and don't feel any better today, but I showered, dressed and fixed myself up. I figure if you pretend like you feel good, you'll actually feel good. It's not working so far. I'll keep you posted. In keeping with my theory, I decided to do a little cooking. Well, not so much cooking, as assembling. Moving around might make me feel better. So far, not so much. In any case, I give you: The Best Snack Mix In The Natural Free-Born World!

Recipe and How-To pictures under the cut. :)

Cast of Characters: I used Peanut Butter Captain Crunch, Kix, Corn Chex, HoneyComb, (or the generic equivalent, my kids don't care), Pretzels, Honey Roasted Peanuts, Honey, Butter, and an assortment of M&M's.

Melt 3/4 c butter and 1 c honey in a saucepan Wait. That picture up there? It's a lie. Here's what my bottle of honey really looks like.

Isn't he pathetic? But honey is the only food in the world that doesn't go bad. And it's expensive! So when it starts to crystallize, you just heat it, and it returns to normal. Doing this in the microwave isn't the best idea, though. Try a hot water bath. Anyhoo, live and learn. :)

Then you mix all your cereals in a big bowl. Add pretzels and honey roasted peanuts. Yeah, I use the whole jar. It's all about commitment, folks.
Photobucket

While your honey and butter are melting, mix your cereals and pretzels and nuts all together, hopefully with a hand that has better skin tone than mine. Pasty, I tell you. Go out into the sun, Carrie Leigh!
Photobucket

Get out your 9x13 pans (or similar). Here are mine. I call them good, bad and worse.
Photobucket

Spray them with non-stick spray. Have your cell phone there, just in case you have to take a call. :P
Photobucket

Pour the melted honey butter mixture over the stuff in the bowl and mix well.
Photobucket

Pour the stuff into your prepared pans.
Photobucket

Bake at 350 degrees stirring several times. Watch it! Don't let it burn! There's a fine line between "golden brown" and "Gah! This tastes like crap!"
Photobucket

At this point, you must resist the urge to rip open the M&M's and up end the bag into your open mouth.
Photobucket
Close call. CLOSE CALL.

While you're baking, lay out sheets of wax paper of a flat surface so that your stuff can cool. I didn't have wax paper. The non shiny side of foil works alright, too.
Photobucket

Mix your M&M's in.
Photobucket

Let it cool, then put them in little individual baggies for kids' snacks, or giant airtight containers or ziploc bags for storage. It doesn't go bad before it's gone, trust me. :)
Photobucket

Or, you can have it for brunch, like I did. Ah, the restorative powers of Peanut Butter M&M's. *happy sigh*

ENJOY!

P.S. I'm unsure as to why the pictures are unbelievably huge. I apologize in advance. :)

I think I could have stopped after the pouring of the mix. That looks YUM! without the M&M's. ;)

You are hilarious. I'm sorry you're still not feeling well, though.

And it's been a while since we did 'cooking with Carrie'. Thanks!

Do you feed an army? But... I am so trying! In smaller quantities. When my diet decides to take a break. Or I can use them as bribes for snogs. That's an idea. Ohhhh yumm.

D'you know, they only sell PB M&Ms in miniscule quantities here? And only at Blockbuster. *sigh* Regular M&Ms it is!

You get the heart made out of food because that's what your recipes are. They always look so yummy!
