If you're into reading Ron/Pansy, here you go.

I got runner-up. :)

Read Here at [info]carriescribbles

I'm completely exhausted.  Nolan and I went to a work call at the theatre today where I painted wood to look like... wood.

Oh, scenic painting.  How I've missed you.

Hope everyone's having a spectacular weekend!

...but Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is a giant, steaming, pile of cinematic poo.

And I hear it's really close at [livejournal.com profile] ronpansy_ldws ! If you love me, will you vote?

And even if you don't. I'm not picky. :)

The last few days have been really relaxing! With the boys gone, Nolan and I have had date night (or date lunch) every day. It's been fantastic, really. We've been to restaurants and so forth, but last night I made homemade white pizzas and he read The Thin Man to me while we shared a bottle of Pinot Noir. It was kinda romantical. :)

September 16 - October 3 will be the production dates for South Pacific. It really has a phenomenally talented cast - when I looked at the list past my own name (selfish, selfish) I was floored by all the talent just in the chorus, not to mention the leads! So if you're going to be in the Amarillo area then, make plans to see it. Rehearsals start Monday, and I'm really excited. It's fun to know I have more to do than just the mundane things that go one here from day to day. Laundry, cooking, cleaning, sewing, painting, writing... Breaks up the monotony, you know?

I'm watching a copy of the movie version of South Pacific that I borrowed from my friend Scott. So far, it only makes me want to go on vacation to somewhere tropical. Like right now. The last time I watched it, I think I lived with deedsk_tx. And that was nearly fifteen years ago. Lord, we're old, D. ;) When did that happen?

And I know it might be silly, but waking up to this made me really, really happy, too.

Pretty banner! )

And next weeks prompt is the best yet. :D

Life's pretty great.
I've been so pleased with the turnout for these contests! They bring me joy. :D

All the entries for last month, should you want to read them, can be found here. Go give the authors some love!

First place this month goes to [livejournal.com profile] abitofayla, for her fantastic untitled Ziva-centric NCIS drabble. The voices were spot on. The girl knows her NCIS. :)

Second Place goes to [livejournal.com profile] leigh_adams, for a super sweet and smooshy R/P that made me all melty and smile like a dork.

Third place tie goes to [livejournal.com profile] goeungurl and [livejournal.com profile] filia_umbrae, both with Bones drabbles that made me ridiculously happy. :D LHM, I CANNOT WAIT FOR SEPTEMBER AND THE COFFEE CART. Ahem.

A round of applause for all these winners!

And your prizes will be mailed way earlier than last month (except Ayla? Let me know where to send yours, world traveler). Keep an eye out for them!

JULY'S CONTEST:

This month we're going to give the writers a rest and do a little something for all you cooks and bakers out there!

Hit me with your best recipe, one that is tried and true, and never fails to get yummy sounds for those who eat it. It can be sweet, savory, main course, appetizers or dessert. If you want to go all out, you can do a picture step-by-step on your own journal and link your reply in a comment to this post, or you can simply post the recipe, whichever you're most comfortable with. The winner will receive an Anthropologie apron and some kitchen-y things that might come in handy for future cooking endeavors. Entries must be received by the time I drag myself out of bed on August 1. Good luck and have fun in the kitchen!
"Plot" as used here is not a euphemism for "backside," but as it happens, that's thickening, too, now that you mention it.

Nothing to see here... )

Because I'm whimsical and kinda sweet and fun and maybe a little bored, I'm going to be doing Drabble Scenes From a Hat: The Writing Edition!

You can choose:

Genre: Drama, romance, melodrama, adventure, angst, hurt/comfort, fantasy, friendship, romance, humor...etc.

Place:  on the roof, in the rain, on the floor, in a bed, on a balcony, in the woods, in the gym, in a barn, on a playground, in a hotel, in a graveyard, in the kitchen, in a pool, in a cave, on a couch, in a hot tub, in the snow, by the fireplace, in bed, in the office, the the stirs, in the shower, in the elevator, in a tent, at a restuarant....  or one of your choosing.

Pairing
:  Bones: Booth/Brennan,  NCIS: Tony/Ziva, HP: ** Draco/Ginny, Pansy/Ron, Firefly:  Malcolm/Inara, Supernatural: (Brother fic only), True Blood: Eric/Sookie, Hoyt/Jessica, Castle: Castle/Beckett, Merlin:  Arthur/Gwen.

I reserve the right to play with point of view and tense.  Because I am tyrannical in my control.  Muahaha.  Ha.

Okie doke!  Go on, request something fun.

**And if you request D/G, know that [info]mynuet  will be dragged right along into it, because she's the D to my G, for sure.

Now if THAT's not something for everyone, I don't know what is. :)

I made a Dutch Baby for breakfast this morning, and I can tell it's going to be one of those things I whip up on a moment's notice from henceforth when I want a decadent breakfast. It was fabulous. Completely fabulous. Because I love you all, I'll give you the how-to under the cut.
Recipe adapted from 'Joy the Baker'. : )

After you make one of those for yourself, you must watch this. I've never seen anything quite like it. You have to make it through their weird potato salad song, but about :50 second mark, it gets eye-opening.

And I won the[livejournal.com profile] dg_ldws 6th round this week! I'm into the semifinals. Wish me luck. :)

Click the picture and go vote for your favorite and least favorite. It'll only take a minute!

Goodness gracious.  I really didn't think I'd make it this far.  Gooood prompt next week, though.  Looking forward to it.

I'm in Arlington tonight and we're scooping up the boys and headed home in the morning.  Have a good weekend, all.

My boys have gone with their grandparents to our Cabin in Childress until Thursday, so I'm on my own until then, and I'm sitting here, crying into my coffee because I miss them so much.

*snort of epic proportions*

No really, I love my kids; but I adore being alone.

In other news, the economic crisis has hit us, and hard. Nolan has had to lay off 15 of our employees in the last two months, and he feels like a failure, as if the lack of work available is somehow his fault. Intellectually, he knows it isn't, but he still feels responsible for the men and their families. He even went so far as to call around to other contractors, to find them jobs, and that was met with varying degrees of acceptance. I told him that he had to cut them a little slack, they'd been fired and had worries of their own. He's stressed and grumpy and stressed. Did I mention stressed? I keep telling him it's going to be okay; even if we have to downsize and sell the cars and move, he'll still have me and the boys, and we're all healthy. We're blessed. I don't know what more I can do for him.

In writing news, I am still plugging along at [livejournal.com profile] dg_ldws; it's a lot harder than I thought it would be, this drabble writing business. I've got one staring at me that's due tonight, and I'm simply not moved. That's always been my problem. My muse doesn't perk up on demand, and she gets distracted oh, so easily.

On the up side, I have lots of time and quiet to bang out 450 words. I think I'm also going to hit the shops and buy myself some new tennis shoes today. (Workout shoes? I don't play tennis, that's just always what I've called them.) The five miles a day is killing my feet.

So, have a lovely Tuesday, friends. I'm off to not hear children bickering for a few days. :)

So we have a new addition to the family.

She's so sweet.
Dogs make you smile more. Did you know? True story. )

Edit: And don't forget to vote at [profile] dg_ldws! I dare you to guess which one is mine. You totally won't be able to, I'm so stealthy. ;)

This day has sucked baboon butt. Seriously.  So, instead of bitching, I give you my top ten things that have made me happy today.

10.  Fresh blueberries that don't cost $5 for a handful.  Fresh fruit season, in fact.  Delightful.
9.  Recipe Blogs.  The Pioneer woman, in particular.
8.  The story for [livejournal.com profile] ronpansy_fest rocking right along.  [livejournal.com profile] seegrim  and I have a nice little story happening.  :)  We're at 8,332 words.
7.  That I can say the whole prologue to Star Trek.  (Nolan says this shouldn't make me happy, but assures that I am, in fact really dorky.  Something you and I already knew. *wink*)
6.  Children laughing as they play in the sprinkler.  The fact that my kids are still entertained by doing so.
5.  My ipod jack for the car.  Tunes.  Always make me happy.  AC/DC with the sunroof open.
4.  Friends keeping me company on the phone while I grocery shop.
3.  Clean sheet day!
2.  Lists.  Grocery, to do, and the satisfaction that comes from crossing things off of them.
1.  Winning stuff!

My sister and her cute family arrive tonight, so I'll be away for most of the weekend - I'll probably be available again Sunday evening.  Have a good one, y'all!

And let me just say, I should never go without a beta.  Ever.  Even with 435 words.  :P

They were all great drabbles, if you want to read them, go here. :)
