First of all, it was Ethan's eleventh birthday. Cannot believe my kid is eleven.

Second, went to AJ's talent show, where he and several other kiddos did a lip synch and dance to 'Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better,' from Annie Get Your Gun. I'm his mom, but it's pretty cute.

It's in two parts because I absolutely suck at videotaping.

Three, I cooked all day for home group, but then I got a call mid afternoon from Nolan asking me if everything was okay. Turns out, there was a fire less than a mile from the house. It was a scary, smoky, crazy afternoon.

Fourth, the powers that be decided that they couldn't have home group meet at our house (there were streets blockaded and neighborhoods evacuated) so I decided that was divine providence, and we took Ethan to dinner for his birthday, and then went to Academy and got him a new bike.

Eleven. I have an eleven year-old. The mind reels.

Lastly, [livejournal.com profile] nolankyle and I did out first marriage blog. We're still working out format and technical stuff, but it's there. Special kudos to [livejournal.com profile] jandjsalmon for the layout. :D

And that's probably enough to be getting on with, right? Goodnight!
The rapture will not occur today just because some nutjobs with billboards say it will. Or maybe it will happen, but regardless, right there in black and white, God's word says that no man will know the day or time. So unless God was the one putting up the billboards, I think we can keep on truckin'. (If indeed God was the one who put up the billboards, I'm sorry about the nutjob comment. We're good, right?) On a side note, last week someone said, "the rapture is coming," but what I heard was "the raptor is coming, which would be so, so much worse. Agreed?

Regardless, I'm glad I won't have to hear the 'Warm Welcome' from 'Toby.'

I always giggle when I watch this.

I haven't blogged in a while, but I've been BUSY. With a capital B. Like you read about, folks.

I got all my academy girls' dresses finished, with varying degrees of success. Most of the little sweethearts liked their costumes, so I think it's a win. I'm still working on a piece of commissioned art for an inspirational speaker - it's drawn but not painted, and I'm still trying to make sense of the chord progressions in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. (I'm in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at ALT, if you didn't hear my shriek of joy from where you were a few weeks ago.) The music might as well be Farsi, for how well I'm doing with it. Harmony is a challenge for me. And when I say 'challenge,' I mean it's so hard it makes me want to sit down in the middle of the floor and cry real, unattractive, unmusical tears.

But enough of my harmony saga. (For today, anyway. I reserve the right to whine about it again at a later date.) Last night I went and fitted the girls in their dresses, and then watched the rehearsal to see if they needed other mending or alterations. I took LOADS of pictures, and then my camera battery died before act II. However:

Pictures and a video! )
In any case, I love these kids, and I love my job, and I LOVE working for the theatre. There's so much joy in each step of the way. I wouldn't trade it for the world!

First of all, despite my training as a serious actress (*snort*) and the fact that I adore costume drama and Hamlet and all things Broadway, I want to go see this movie pretty badly.

Various and sundry informational updates... )

And I think that's all of today's news. Have a good Tuesday, y'all.
The LX ranch and the folks that own it were nice enough to invite us to their 100 year shindig because my husband's company does work for them, and it was a great party! Super fun.

I laughed pretty hard. )

Mostly this post is for my mother, who isn't going to get to see the show I'm currently in. But for everyone else, this is sort of cool. Mark Robertson-Baker, a filmmaker/director here in town is filming a documentary/ad spots for ALT during the process of South Pacific.

I'm in all three videos, but the last one is probably the best. It includes the follies routine on a teeny tiny stage on the stage, and I find it amusing that I'm continually looking down so that my lard ass isn't going to FALL OFF.

Videos Under Here! )

Keep in mind that these are rehearsals. So nothing is quite finished or perfectly polished. Even so, it's still pretty good!
Good blog writing material has either been scarce or else I've forgotten it by the time I get to the keyboard (more likely), and what with one thing and another happening in TVland that make me want to find a bridge and jump off to end my suffering (*cough* Bones and Castle, I'm looking at you) I thought I'd show you guys some things on the web that I've found cool/mildly amusing/so hysterical I almost peed my pants.

This Wiki teaches you how to make bath bombs. I'm not sure I'm going to go to that much trouble when Lush sends them right to my door, but it's nice to think about.

This made me giggle. Only because every time I leave the house, I see a girl (or worse yet, a woman) who needs one.

Dante's Internet. I'm just dorky enough to understand it. And I'm not telling you which level I fall under. Unless you ask.

I love the Shake Shack, which is a burger joint in Manhattan. If you live within a day's drive, you seriously need to go. You'll thank me, because it's SOOOOOOOOOO good. (Jennifer W? This summer? GO.) I even stalked them enough to find out how to do it at home, with FAB results. But I read yesterday where they're coming out with a peanut butter bacon burger. Peanut butter? Good. Bacon? Good. Burger? Good. Together? I'm not ashamed to say that I'd try it. These folks are geniuses when it comes to burger science.

This is for Mom and all you flower lovers out there. Freaking amazing.

The place where I graduated from high school got blown up. (On purpose. No worries, it was kind of a hole.) But there's video.

These cookies are something I need to try for home group next time.

And lastly, the romantic comedy of the summer that I'm actually looking forward to. I laughed several times at the trailer. Drew Barrymore and Justin Long, who is funny just standing there, and Christina Applegate is in the supporting cast. I like her a lot. :)
Go here for a review/link. I couldn't make it embed. Go figure.

Have a great weekend, y'all. Big love from Tejas.

Now if THAT's not something for everyone, I don't know what is. :)

I made a Dutch Baby for breakfast this morning, and I can tell it's going to be one of those things I whip up on a moment's notice from henceforth when I want a decadent breakfast. It was fabulous. Completely fabulous. Because I love you all, I'll give you the how-to under the cut.
Recipe adapted from 'Joy the Baker'. : )

After you make one of those for yourself, you must watch this. I've never seen anything quite like it. You have to make it through their weird potato salad song, but about :50 second mark, it gets eye-opening.

And I won the[livejournal.com profile] dg_ldws 6th round this week! I'm into the semifinals. Wish me luck. :)

Here's my Christmas tree & stuff.

For those interested.

Let me say that the alcohol on the counter was for the egg nog.  It's not like I swig it while making Christmas morning breakfast.  (Any other morning, though...  no.  Just kidding.)  I don't have an excuse for the rest of it.

And for seegrim...

Because I know you all care SO much, here is my stunning living room, in all it's Christmas decorated glory.

So I'm out Christmas shopping again today, and I walk out of the store and go to my cute, black, Toyota Sequoia, Colin (Firth, not Creevey).  I open up the back, and stand there openmouthed, stunned that all of the packages that I'd bought so far this morning were GONE.  I stood there thinking, "I've been robbed. (*insert big bad words*) Someone stole all of those Christmas presents. " (About $300 worth...  It was a sickening feeling.)  Then I thought, "Why does my car smell like french fries?  I haven't had any french fries.  And what is all this crap spilling out of the storage compartment?"

Long story short, it wasn't my car.

Mine was parked two spaces down, locked.

*headdesk*

I closed the back of the imposter Sequoia, and left quickly.

[personal profile] airmidm, I can fulfill one of your Christmas list wishes, but I'll need that address.  :D

[profile] reenie1, I just need to get a box and go to the UPS store.  :D

We're about to get a buttload of crappy weather...  Sunday night there's supposed to be snow, ice, sleet, more ice....  *glares at mother nature*  Can't it hold off?  I've got stuff to do next week!  (Update:  The house is coming along:  there's sheetrock, the brick's done, and they're texturing the walls.  It's conceivable that we may be in by next December.  Just kidding.  But it'll probably be March.)

The in-laws have the kids.  We had dinner ALONE.  'Twas lovely.  :)

Ethan flipping

He'd never done anything but just jump off before. And he starts with a backflip? The kid has NO fear.

The boys went to theatre camp last week and had a great time.  The camp was based on the works of Eric Carle, and at the end of the week there was a little program inclding productions of The very Quiet Cricket, The Very Hungry Catterpillar, and a rousing rendition of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do You See?

Be patient.  It really takes off after 'white dog'.  My youngest son is the one with what looks like epilepsy, but is really just enthusiasm.  Ethan is standing behind him and to the right a bit, reciting normally...

I'm no Speilberg.  I was laughing too hard.  And yes, that is my husband asking me if our son smoked crack before the performance.
