I'm alone, the laundry is done, the house is clean, I have a cup of coffee and the Christmas music is on. Let the good times roll.
It's been a rough couple of weeks. I'm taking lots of medicine for various ailments, most of which are solely my fault. Though, I did wake up thinking I was having a heart attack, only the pain radiating down my left arm was only a pinched nerve in my shoulder. Apparently I did something in the middle of the night that made the pain unbearable, but I didn't die, in case you were wondering. Anyhow, it's better now. It was just weird. Sucks getting old. All you twenty-somethings? Enjoy it. It's all downhill from here. ;)
I've written all of a handful of words since NaNo ended; All my writing buddies are otherwise occupied, and I've tagged in everything that can be tagged so it's been a lonely couple of weeks. I've dusted off a few of my WIPs, though, and that's fun. I need to do outlines for them, because I tend to ramble and go off on tangents if I don't follow dramatic structure. I do so love writing snarky characters, though. Fun.
Nolan just called a moment ago and asked that I "whip up" gifts for his clients; 50 packages of sweets and breads, some of which will need to be shipped to various places in the U.S. Can't stand it when the man has brainstorms. It usually means more work for me, it does. Most of my Christmas shopping is done - I still have a few things to get, but it's of the "go in, buy, leave" variety. My favorite. I can't stand going shopping for something and I've no idea what to get. Makes for Cranky!Carrie.
No one wants that. Especially not around Jesus' b-day.
( Have some pics of Ethan's play... )
Luckily, my husband and I love each other the other 364 days of the year, too, so Valentine's day isn't a shock to our system.
( cut for the shmoopiness )
I got so many lovely emails and posts and comments and facebook thingys! Sincere thanks to everyone who took time out of their day to post or call or sing! BIG love to the f-list. I got a DVD of Season 3 of Friday Night Lights from sweet Jessica and a DVD of Sweeney Todd and some really cool, cute measuring cups from Celeste, and two charms for my bracelet ( a converse shoe and a purse) and all four seasons of The Office on DVD from Nolan.
And my sweet husband took me out to dinner.
We decided to have dinner at Las Brisas, but neither one of us were really hungry, so we thought, 'appetizers and a bottle of wine, and maybe a movie?' So I decided to get a good bottle of wine. I chose 1999 d'Arenberg Shiraz: The Dead Arm. It was on the menu, and it was $29, and I thought, "Meh, it's my birthday."
So they brought it out and decanted it, went through the whole ritual of the cork, and the tasting and the pouring, and then the wine steward came out and spoke to us.
I had half a bottle of wine, so I'm not going to do a word for word repetition of the conversation, but suffice to say, the man had a stutter. A bad stutter. And he was using words like "the sexiest wine I've ever had" and "fruit notes" and "wonderful spiciness." Nolan said that I was going to hell for all the giggling I did. He's right. I'm AWFUL. But it was FUNNY.
After he left, Nolan and I had this exchange:
Me. A stuttering sommelier! My birthday is complete!
Nolan. (frowns) Sommelier?
Me. (explains) Wine steward.
Nolan. Well I didn't think it was a fancy French word for speech impediment, Carrie.
Then we got the bill. It turns out that wine was $29 A GLASS! *faints* Luckily, Nolan said I was worth a $139 bottle of wine.
YIKES.
Oh, and the Haiku Contest ends tonight at 11:00!
That line's been running through my head on a loop for the last week. It was from a monologue cutting I did for a scholarship audition, years ago. It's funny how these thing com back at weird times.
Random thoughts:
*My attention to detail is not good. This used to bother me, but it simply does not anymore. If you have to fix my mistakes, try to do so without making me feel stupid. Or talking to me about it at all. And I'll do the same for you.
*Conflict cripples me. I cannot function in the midst of a fight. My instinct is to withdraw. The fact that I say nothing does not mean that I agree or disagree, for that matter.
*Because I choose to be silent does not, in fact, make me weak. I think to refrain from speaking is one of the hardest things in the world to do.
*I love Lego Star Wars with every fiber of my being. That game has united my children, forcing them to WORK TOGETHER. The planets must've aligned just right. I don't understand why Indiana Jones shows up, but I love it all the same.
*blueberry muffins soothe a lot of pain.
*I'm grateful for friends.
*one of my favorite things is going for a walk with my dog. She's so excited. And joyful while we're out. And grateful. Of course, she's grateful to get back on the couch when we get back, as well.
*I love writing. I'd become disillusioned with it in the past three years or so, but my love for it is back. I'm inspired. So YAY.
* And because I can, and really enjoyed this the last time I did it::
For the first five people that reply to me and re-post this challenge, I will send you something. It might be something I've made, or something cool from my hidden stash, it might be a mix CD, or a rubber duck, a book I think you will enjoy, or something else that is awesome. Whatever it is, I promise that I will get it to you in 30 days or fewer. (Or as long as it takes.:)) The only thing you need to do in order to participate is to be one of the first five to reply to this, AND post this very same thing on YOUR LiveJournal - cause it's fun to give people stuff. (Please read all the comments because I'll be replying to people, and this will make my comment numbers jump up.)
If I don't already have your address, (and why not? I'm not a stalker!) you can send it to persephone3333@gmail.com. :)
My company for the weekend just left, Katie's sacked out on the brick floor by my feet, Nolan's taking a nap, and the boys are playing with a cardboard box in the garage. Thousands of dollars worth of toys and what do they play with? A cardboard box. A rock, a hoop and a stick is all they need. Boys.
Anyway. Mom & Tom gave us a housewarming gift of PLANTS! WOO HOO! I planted two big pots with all kinds of fun plants for the front porch, two pots of geraniums on the back porch, and started an herb garden in the backyard. I got my hands dirty. I hoed. I used a shovel. I actually perspired. I might even have a sunburn on my nose.
I was not cut out for manual labor.
As I was pulling the huge rocks and chunks of concrete from the herb garden, earth streaked on my face and cute little sundress splattered with mud, cursing the construction people that obviously didn't pick up after themselves, I had quite the Scarlett O'Hara moment... "As God as my witness I will never weed a flower bed again!"
Or something like that.
It was a little more melodramatic when you were right in the midst of it.
( Pictures, anyone? )
Oh. I've been meaning to say. I have an extra copy of Quidditch Through the Ages. (Yes, I'm aware that it makes me a HUGE dork.) I'll mail it to the first person who leaves their address. Or emails their address to persephone3333@gmail.com. :D Ooops! Snagged by Nicole!

dL sent me the sweetest little personalized teacup, y'all. *hugs dL*
Meanwhile, seegrim sent me a collectible teapot, teacup and stand (so adorable, I gave a litle happy sigh when I unwrapped it), elyaeru gave me an LJ gift certificate, Dad sent a check, and I got well wishes and fun comments, and e-cards from the flist, but nothing from hubs.
Admittedly, time is fluid in Nolanland. It doesn't always happen on anyone else's timetable. I know this. And he abhors the greeting card holidays. Valentine's day, mother's day, etc., I can practically guarantee I get zilch. However, a random Thursday? Yep, he brings me flowers, Or does something nice. So I usually don't complain. But he usually gets the birthday right. Thus, the pout.
So yesterday he brings me my birthday present. Wholly unexpected. A brand new, HP Pavillion dv6000 LAPTOP. Oh, my, he is lovely. I am in heaven. I'm currently sitting at the dining table, in close proximity to the kiddos, sipping coffee at the pretty guy.
But he needs a name.
He's sleek, sophisticated, powerful, masculine, and he admittedly turns me on, just a little. So he needs a good name. F-list? You have your work cut out for you!

*relieved sigh*
I'm officially done Christmas shopping. And if I'm not, it's not getting bought. (She said, with Christmas cheer oozing from every pore on her body.)
I have a board meeting this afternoon. Blech. I'd rather just help the kids, not hear where all the money goes to. And then my last acting class of the semester! YAY!
And I got cards from both

It's this POS, or the old laptop, which doesn't have an 's' on the keyboard. *sigh*
So there's that.
Anyway, I'm not complaining. I'm very grateful to

I have the best f-list ever. Thanks, girls.
Because I know you all care SO much, here is my stunning living room, in all it's Christmas decorated glory.
So I'm out Christmas shopping again today, and I walk out of the store and go to my cute, black, Toyota Sequoia, Colin (Firth, not Creevey). I open up the back, and stand there openmouthed, stunned that all of the packages that I'd bought so far this morning were GONE. I stood there thinking, "I've been robbed. (*insert big bad words*) Someone stole all of those Christmas presents. " (About $300 worth... It was a sickening feeling.) Then I thought, "Why does my car smell like french fries? I haven't had any french fries. And what is all this crap spilling out of the storage compartment?"
Long story short, it wasn't my car.
Mine was parked two spaces down, locked.
*headdesk*
I closed the back of the imposter Sequoia, and left quickly.

We're about to get a buttload of crappy weather... Sunday night there's supposed to be snow, ice, sleet, more ice.... *glares at mother nature* Can't it hold off? I've got stuff to do next week! (Update: The house is coming along: there's sheetrock, the brick's done, and they're texturing the walls. It's conceivable that we may be in by next December. Just kidding. But it'll probably be March.)
The in-laws have the kids. We had dinner ALONE. 'Twas lovely. :)
Tired of feeling moody and cranky and generally recalcitrant?
Try Carrie's sure-fire "Make You Feel Better" Trifecta:
1. Pedicure/Manicure - what's not to love about pretty feet? Seriously, these are worth the cash. Skip lunch, and go have one. You will not regret it.
2. A Diet Coke (or your soda of choice) from Sonic Drive In. Crunching the ice is therapeutic. And, if it's not to weird for you, you can pretend that it's the bones of all the people that piss you off. (Oh, my. My dark side is showing. Sorry, Mother.) And if you don't have a Sonic near you, I am terribly sorry. The ice is really first rate.
3. Retail Therapy - I bought myself some nail polish, a candle, a new shower curtain and a tablecloth. Good times.
I also did a little writing with

Aaaand... I love my acting classes to itty bitty pieces, seriously. They are SO MUCH FUN.
