My Netflix queue is getting alarmingly low.  Anyone seen any movies that they thing I ought to see?  Keep in mind, I've seen next to nothing at the theatre this year.

I like comedies, dramas, romantic comedies, historical dramas, period pieces...  and Nolan likes stuff with car chases, explosions and shootouts.

We don't agree on much, cinematically.  :)

Ummm I just watched 10,000 BC and it wasn't bad. Historical but actiony too and the romance is lovely.

I'm bored. So here's basically a list of DVDs I have on top of my computer that I think might appeal to you more — I mean, not sure if you're into things like What A Girl Wants and stuff. :P Plus keywords you used.

- Atonement - drama, romance, period piece. I suppose. Haven't actually seen it yet.
- Mr and Mrs Smith - car chases, explosions, shoot outs.
- Closer - drama
- Stepmom - drama, tearjerker
- Pay It Forward - drama, tearjerker
- Zoolander - comedy, drama
- Old School - comedy, drama
- Monty Python - comedy, "historical dramas", "period pieces"
- Volver - drama
- Domino - car chases, explosions, shootouts, drama
- Trainspotting - drama, drugs
- Snatch - drama, comedy
- L4YER CAK3 - drama, drugs, shootouts
- Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels - drama, shootouts, explosions, comedy
- The Princess Bride - romantic comedy
- The Mask of Zorro/The Legend of Zorro - drama, period pieces, horse chases, sword fighting (lol)
- Stardust - romantic comedy, drama
- National Treasure 1/2 - drama, "comedy", action, historical. Ish. I can't really keyword these ...
- Perfume - drama, historical drama (<3)
- Hot Fuzz - comedy, drama
- Team America - comedy, drama, car chases, explosions

And um ... yeah. So what are your some of your recent favourites? :P

Saving Private Ryan
Pulp Fiction
Wall-E
300
Treasure of the Sierra Madre
Unforgiven
Silence of the Lambs

Brokeback Mountain
The Searchers
Pride & Prejudice (BBC Version)

Anything starring Keanu Reeves (we're getting silly now)

And the committee just migrated to the kitchen... As you can see, this is why I just log in my Netflix and let them start adding stuff.

Not knowing what you may have seen recently, here are some things I've gone crazy for in the past year or so:

- North and South (BBC miniseries) - it's historical, it has an AMAZING romance, the music is quite lovely, it's set during the industrial revolution, it features the one fictional character who can eclipse my love for Mr. Darcy...

- The Painted Veil
- The Illusionist
- Sidney White (this is a ridiculous teen-ish comedy/romance, that isn't particularly great, but its about how awesome it is to be nerdy, and I really really like it, as total feel-good, brainless fun)
- Waitress
- The Reckoning

If you're into TV series on DVD, I highly recommend a series called Slings & Arrows. Each season is only 6 episodes (and there are three), and it's loosely based after the Stratford Festival here in Ontario, which is one of our more prestigious drama festivals (as the name would suggest, centering predominantly around Shakespeare). Knowing your background in theatre, I think you'd really really enjoy it.

Atonement, Evening, Veronica Mars (tv), Bones (tv), Love in the Time of Cholera, Gone Baby Gone, Away from Her, Disturbia, Waitress, The Office (tv States version).

I just looked at my netflix activity and this is what I liked.

I loved the Water Horse (fine entertainment for the entire family!!!). Gone Baby Gone was good and gritty.

I just watched THE BUCKET LIST and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS. They were both good. :)

I basically second what everyone said above.

Right now I recommend;

The Jane Austen Book Club.

Easy, entertaining movie which I enjoyed a lot, and you don't even need to know the Austen books to understand it.

And I also recommend;

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Don't know why it's not that well known, because it's a fab movie.

Go for TV on DVD... Weeds is shockingly well written. It's dark, funny, there are guns for the boys and love stories for the girls. Try it. You'll be surprised.

Also, there is always Buffy (nudges) depending on how bored you really are.

Oo! *just got off a movie binge*

Charlie Bartlett-quirky comedy, teens, prescription drug use, a gun, and Robert Downey Jr.

Disturbia-thriller/comedy/ wee teen romance. Has Le Beouf!

1408-scary evil ass room with John Cusack.

Vantage Point-one for the hubby. See the shooting of the Prez from multiple perspectives. Thriller-action-mystery. Kinda political. Ignore the stupidity and blatant protocol breaking of the Secret Service agents. Nifty car chase.

Thank You For Smoking-hilarious look at what it takes to defend the cigarette industry.

Waitress-because there's nothing better than a 'I hate my husband' pie. xD Super cute.

I saw a British dramedy I really liked last week. Try "Kinky Boots" if you haven't already seen it.

Stick with us, and your queue will be full in no time. :D As for new movies, check these out:

No Country for Old Men - Intense and exciting!

American Gangster - A very good story with interesting characters.

Both meet the violence factor that Nolan wants plus the character interaction that you want. For that reason, they're almost perfect movies. ^_^

Here are some great TV series that you can get from Netflix:

The Barchester Chronicles - This has Alan Rickman in his younger days as a smarmy, self-serving chaplain. A must-see for his fans.

Jewel in the Crown - If you love history, drama, and romance, I guarantee you'll enjoy this film. Worth every minute.

I, Claudius - Another historical piece, this one is full of drama, intrigue, betrayal, and murder. And that's just among the relatives. ;) It was on Masterpiece Theatre 30 years ago and has John Hurt (Mr. Ollivander in the HP series) as Caligula. One of his best performances ever, and that's saying something.
