My Netflix queue is getting alarmingly low. Anyone seen any movies that they thing I ought to see? Keep in mind, I've seen next to nothing at the theatre this year.
I like comedies, dramas, romantic comedies, historical dramas, period pieces... and Nolan likes stuff with car chases, explosions and shootouts.
We don't agree on much, cinematically. :)

- North and South (BBC miniseries) - it's historical, it has an AMAZING romance, the music is quite lovely, it's set during the industrial revolution, it features the one fictional character who can eclipse my love for Mr. Darcy...
- The Painted Veil
- The Illusionist
- Sidney White (this is a ridiculous teen-ish comedy/romance, that isn't particularly great, but its about how awesome it is to be nerdy, and I really really like it, as total feel-good, brainless fun)
- Waitress
- The Reckoning
If you're into TV series on DVD, I highly recommend a series called Slings & Arrows. Each season is only 6 episodes (and there are three), and it's loosely based after the Stratford Festival here in Ontario, which is one of our more prestigious drama festivals (as the name would suggest, centering predominantly around Shakespeare). Knowing your background in theatre, I think you'd really really enjoy it.

Right now I recommend;
The Jane Austen Book Club.
Easy, entertaining movie which I enjoyed a lot, and you don't even need to know the Austen books to understand it.
And I also recommend;
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Don't know why it's not that well known, because it's a fab movie.

Also, there is always Buffy (nudges) depending on how bored you really are.

Charlie Bartlett-quirky comedy, teens, prescription drug use, a gun, and Robert Downey Jr.
Disturbia-thriller/comedy/ wee teen romance. Has Le Beouf!
1408-scary evil ass room with John Cusack.
Vantage Point-one for the hubby. See the shooting of the Prez from multiple perspectives. Thriller-action-mystery. Kinda political. Ignore the stupidity and blatant protocol breaking of the Secret Service agents. Nifty car chase.
Thank You For Smoking-hilarious look at what it takes to defend the cigarette industry.
Waitress-because there's nothing better than a 'I hate my husband' pie. xD Super cute.

No Country for Old Men - Intense and exciting!
American Gangster - A very good story with interesting characters.
Both meet the violence factor that Nolan wants plus the character interaction that you want. For that reason, they're almost perfect movies. ^_^
Here are some great TV series that you can get from Netflix:
The Barchester Chronicles - This has Alan Rickman in his younger days as a smarmy, self-serving chaplain. A must-see for his fans.
Jewel in the Crown - If you love history, drama, and romance, I guarantee you'll enjoy this film. Worth every minute.
I, Claudius - Another historical piece, this one is full of drama, intrigue, betrayal, and murder. And that's just among the relatives. ;) It was on Masterpiece Theatre 30 years ago and has John Hurt (Mr. Ollivander in the HP series) as Caligula. One of his best performances ever, and that's saying something.
