I just dropped a (thankfully unopened) can of Diet Coke on my foot, and it's shaping up to have a rather gorgeous purply-green bruise, and one heck of a painful, swollen bump.

But hey, it's been awhile since I've been to the emergency room, right?

*ouch* I hope you're putting it up with lots of ice on it!

Eek! That almost exact same thing happened to me except it was a frozen jar of tomato sauce instead of a can of coke. I don't think I really did anything about it except tape it up. Then there was a really weird blood bubble for a while. Sorry for the TMI. I am such a magnate for weird accidents.

Aww! I hope it doesn't hurt for too long! In my experience (of repeatedly having my feet stepped on and such in soccer) ice works well and it should feel a lot better after a few days. If there's a lot of bruising, the blood/color will drain into your foot and look funny and worsy than it is, but it's actually okay and normal :) Oh, and if swells at all, just elevate when you ice. Put your foot up ona pillow and sit back. You'll totally have a great excuse for sitting back and taking a few minutes for yourself. Oh yeah, and on a foot, icing should only be done for about 10 minutes at a time. :

So yeah, I'll quit being a doctor now :) I just thought I'd share some of the stuff I've learned over the years logging hours and hours in the athletic training room. As a patient :)
