The boys just left with the sitter, and Nolan and I are about to go do our duty to the theatre by working the yearly special event starring Linda Eder, star of stage...  and stage, I guess.  She was in Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway, and she has a beautiful voice.  So we take tickets at the door and serve champagne to the rich folks, and we still get to see her minus the $250 dollar a ticket price tag.

That's just good math, I say.

After that, we get to go to the gala party afterward, which is lotsa fun.  Open bar, live band, free food...  what could be better?

*grins*  Next weekend, we get to do it all over again for the ALTA awards.  I'm nominated for something or other (don't expect to win, but it really is nice just to be nominated), and it's the same drill.  Except no rich folks, all actors, which is a rocking good time, let me just say.

And my boys leave Monday for 5 days for tennis and golf camp.  And after they come back, it looks like they'll be leaving again to visit their cousins in Colorado.  *wibbles*  Don't know if I can let them go for two weeks in a row.  I might have to revoke my 'beta mom' card.  Hrm.

Last bit of news, we're having fajitas for father's day dinner tomorrow and inviting a ton of folk, so it looks like I'll be cleaning and cooking tomorrow, which is alot like what I did on Mother's Day.  Maybe without the twinge of resentment.

Y'all have a good weekend, you hear? And happy father's day to ... Daniel?  I think you're the only father on my f-list.  And to any an all other lurkers out there.  Live it up on your day, guys!  Stop by for fajitas if you're in town.  :D

This day has sucked baboon butt. Seriously.  So, instead of bitching, I give you my top ten things that have made me happy today.

10.  Fresh blueberries that don't cost $5 for a handful.  Fresh fruit season, in fact.  Delightful.
9.  Recipe Blogs.  The Pioneer woman, in particular.
8.  The story for [livejournal.com profile] ronpansy_fest rocking right along.  [livejournal.com profile] seegrim  and I have a nice little story happening.  :)  We're at 8,332 words.
7.  That I can say the whole prologue to Star Trek.  (Nolan says this shouldn't make me happy, but assures that I am, in fact really dorky.  Something you and I already knew. *wink*)
6.  Children laughing as they play in the sprinkler.  The fact that my kids are still entertained by doing so.
5.  My ipod jack for the car.  Tunes.  Always make me happy.  AC/DC with the sunroof open.
4.  Friends keeping me company on the phone while I grocery shop.
3.  Clean sheet day!
2.  Lists.  Grocery, to do, and the satisfaction that comes from crossing things off of them.
1.  Winning stuff!

My sister and her cute family arrive tonight, so I'll be away for most of the weekend - I'll probably be available again Sunday evening.  Have a good one, y'all!

The people that my husband invited to lunch today never told him whether or not they were coming.

A.  Rude people.
B.  Husband.  Argh.  Get an RSVP.
C.  Food for 10 that may only be eaten by four.

Anyone want to come over for leftovers?

My jaw is sore I've clenched it so much this morning.

Even though my children are being whiny and temperamental, and my husband was supposed to leave town and didn't, dashing my hopes for a guilt-free computer fest this weekend, as I sit in my kitchen with a glass of wine, listening to the wind literally HOWL outside, I feel grateful for my life because of one thing.

Wait for it...

Garlic.

Now, I know, I know, I could have said my good health, or Jesus, or my family, or Mexican food, or being blessed with really great hair, but no, what I'm grateful most of all right now is garlic. Man, oh, man, I love it.

Cooking with Carrie. An adventure in butter and attitude... )
So due to the big snow we had a few weeks ago, the boys didn't get today off from school. Aaron, in particular was very disgruntled about that, and as I lay in bed with them and cuddled for a minute (the preferred method of waking them over shouting up the stairs to GET DRESSED, ALREADY), Aaron proclaimed that it was, "just so... Monday."

I had to agree.

Ethan however, took it a step further and said, "It makes my joints hurt."

Cute kid story under the cut )

And for Nicole, who drooled so sweetly when I posted about the food porn, I give you the step-by step for Chocolate Peanut Butter Dream Bars.

There's chocolate and peanut butter. What's not to love? )

It's a lot of time to devote, my darlings, but very, very worth it.

So fattening, you may as well just give up for the day, you know? )

But SO worth it.
So a couple of weeks ago, I agreed to host a party for all of the couples that are going on the cruise in two weeks, with their kiddos.  That's 12 adults, 16 kids.

I thought, "Oh, yeah.  It'll be fun."

*hyperventilates*

I still have cleaning to do, 4 lasagnas to make, to drag out the vacuum so the rugs can be some semblance of clean, & make beds.

Okay, that's not so bad.  Nolan just went to the grocery store for me, because he is a Godly man who loves me and wants to preserve my sanity.  Of course, he'll inevitably forget something, or get creative with an item on the list and have to make a return trip to the store, but I'm holding out hope, as ever.  I was very specific.  We shall see.

And My SIL is coming to get the boys for the afternoon.  So, all in all, could be worse?

Aaaaand it's a big posting week for Muove.  Lotsa fun scenes.  Some that still aren't finished yet.  Not that I'll be able to do anything about them TODAY.

Well, maybe.  I am, after all, the queen of the multitask.  :D

The frickin' coffeepot bit it today.  *sigh*  And you thought I was an alarmist.  Huh uh.  Everything with a plug, baby.  Everything with a plug.
Anyone have a brand of coffeepot that they adore?  We've been through about four in the last two years.

The Cookie Press Cookie recipe:  It is not for the faint of heart.

1 cake mix, whatever flavor you'd like
2 3/4 c flour
4 sticks of butter - omg.

Melt butter.  Mix with dry ingredients.  Stick in the gun.  Good times.

I am an incredibly blessed person.  This isn't a new realization; on some level, I know this to be true daily.  However, I do have days where I get sucked into a "me" depression spiral.  Thankfully, these days are balanced by the knowledge that I serve a merciful and benevolent God who gives me all the grace I could possibly ask for.  He's pretty incredible.  Mad props to God, yo.

Meanwhile, under the cut, it's pretty image intensive.  Watch out!

Random FYI:  I'm the biggest dork EVER.  I was doing a crossword at the pool today where #63 across was "spoke snake" and had 6 letters.  My first thought?  Parseltongue won't fit there.  Answer:  hissed.  =P

I've wanted to do this for ages...  a cooking blog post!  Behind the cut it's kind of image intensive, so beware dialup users!
