This is one of those posts for Granny, so she can see all the cute. If you like cute pictures of theatre kids, you can stay, too.

Ethan's play and AJ's hair... )

My friend Stephanie just brought back the platter that we trade back and forth all filled up with goodies, so I'm going to go have some breakfast. Tra la la!

I went this afternoon to let Valerie play with my hair. We watched the Live from Lincoln Center version of SP to get us in the mood...

The results were good!

Okay. I have an admission to make. I'm vain about my hair.

I've known that for some time. What I didn't realize was just how vain I am about my kids' hair.

Nolan took Ethan out running errands on Saturday. Evidently they went to the den of mediocrity that is Sports Clips, and long story (which includes a Dennis the Menace comparison, an absentee stylist and some exceedingly bad judgment) short, they both came home looking like someone used a weed whacker to cut their hair.

I normally take the boys to my hair girl, the brilliant and very kind Arviel at the salon 'Reds'. We missed their cut appointment a week and a half ago, and I guess Ethan had enough of hair in his eyes.

I'm glad school pictures aren't for another few months.

The topper, though? Last night about ten minutes before our dinner guests came over, Aaron CUT HIS BANGS AN INCH FROM HIS SCALP.

Seriously? SERIOUSLY???? HE'S EIGHT YEARS OLD! Rassafrassinfrassin kid.

I wanted to wring his cute little neck. I restrained myself, so no one call CPS. Luckily, Arviel is going to work us in tomorrow morning to try to repair the damage. Nothing can be done about the tragedy that is Ethan's hair.

Yeah. Vain.

From now on, we're ALL going to Arviel. Nolan included.

That's all.
Show was AWESOME. Have to grab a trowel and hack my makeup off, try and run a brush through my big, ratted, Texas pageant hair, then sleep.

Ahhhh, sleep. You elusive bitch. And I'll get 6 hours. *whimper*

Love to all!

I started the 30 Day Shred. Oh, good gravy in the early morning, it's tough.

I don't care much for Jillian Michaels (I haven't ever liked any workout guru; I still even harbor a holdover resentment to Jane Fonda), but the workout as a whole is a good one. I certainly feel it. All over. Name a muscle group, and it's sore. This is in addition to my walking regime (3-5 miles a day) and dance rehearsals that are kicking my rear end (not to mention slapping it). Dancing for 4 hours in 3 inch heels will do good things for your legs, let me tell ya.

And by good, I mean they really, really hurt.

Pain? What pain? I'm not in pain... No....

I've got my costumes for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. (Shopping for purposely provocative clothes is very freeing. :D) They are, as a whole, low cut, animal print, tight, lacy and sheer. Which explains the whole first part of the post. Except I should have stopped eating last February if I wanted to look like some of the other size two girls. One of them said, "Whores come in all sizes, Carrie."

Um, thanks.

That may be, but in this show we have 1) itty bitty and... 2)me. So... *sigh* What can you do? I have good hair. They can't take that from me.

One of the other "whores" in the show is having to leave the company to join the Broadway touring production of Phantom of the Opera, to understudy and eventually play Christine. I'm so happy for her. I'm the teensiest, tiniest bit jealous, to be completely honest, but really, really overwhelmingly happy for her, on the whole. I don't know what they're going to do about filling her spot. Selfishly, I'd like some more lines, but it'd probably be best if she were replaced, for all the dance formations and libretto parts.

Past that, I've been busy trying to get the house clean; we're a host home for one of our church's home groups every Wednesday night until December. And we're having people over to dinner Friday. And Mom and Tom are coming on Saturday.

Holy cow, I've got to get off the computer. I've got STUFF to do.

Y'all have a great day!

P.S. Farkle is ridiculously addictive.
Even though my children are being whiny and temperamental, and my husband was supposed to leave town and didn't, dashing my hopes for a guilt-free computer fest this weekend, as I sit in my kitchen with a glass of wine, listening to the wind literally HOWL outside, I feel grateful for my life because of one thing.

Wait for it...

Garlic.

Now, I know, I know, I could have said my good health, or Jesus, or my family, or Mexican food, or being blessed with really great hair, but no, what I'm grateful most of all right now is garlic. Man, oh, man, I love it.

Cooking with Carrie. An adventure in butter and attitude... )
I can tell the hormonal surge for the month has abated somewhat.  You know how I know?  Because I was able to resist the siren call of the tire iron begging me to beat down the idiot mother drivers in the boys' school parking lot this morning.  I told that silly tire iron, "No, you'll just have to catch me earlier next month," and gave it a blithe smile and a pat.  In addition, today I was able to smile and say hello to the shirtless, well-muscled, but Probably Gay Neighbor taking his dog for a run, instead of snarling.  (Why do I think he's gay?  He's way too pretty, his workout shoes match his shorts, no girl is ever with him, and his dog is a Pekinese.  It's just a feeling I get.)

Then there's the October podcast.  I'm trying to put music into it, and as most of you know, I am woefully deficient in the technical arena.  And by woefully deficient, I mean CRAP.  So, I'm working on it.  I have recorded three of the four fics, and I have only the 21 page monster left, as well as the editing.  *rolls eyes*  The editing.  *shivers*  My itunes freaked out yesterday and I spent most of the morning trying not to lose the kagillion songs I have on it.  The up side?  I fixed it (wonder of wonders) and now have Lil' Red Riding Hood by Sam the Sham and The Pharohs.  I really do like that song.  It's a classic, and it's perfect for the fic I recorded.  It's actually part of the fic I recorded. (Little Red Riding Hood by StrangerWithMy Face) Anyway.

Playwrighting went well last night.  It appears as if we have a premise.  We'll finish the plot outline and cast of characters next week, hopefully, and then begin some actual dialogue.  Thank God.  [profile] caliga_rpg is all kinds of fun so far...  lots of ideas, lots of scening possibilities.  All I need is time, right?  Riiiiight. The fun starts October first, y'all.  Come and play.  There's [profile] caliga_fanif you want to comment and squee with the rest of us after the posts start.  Put it on your f-list.  You know you want to.

The boys had their first date last Friday night.  [profile] alittleredhoodtook them to the Amarillo High homecoming game. They had a blast. (She was actually babysitting on a night she had something else to do, so I owe her.)

Aaaand I've watched the first two seasons of Veronica Mars.  (I love Logan.  I can't help it.  It's the bad boy project 'fixer' in me.)  The 3rd comes out on DVD in late October, and I'm going to die before I get to see it.  Why was it cancelled?  Why do I watch cancelled TV series and torture myself?  First Dead Like Me & Firefly, now this.

Okay.  That's all the news that's fit to type.  Have a lovely day, all.
