So the month of May is a little more than halfway over, there are just two weeks of school left, Memorial day is just around the corner, and spring is busting out all over in West Texas!

I just wanted to remind all of you that asked for a prompt for May's Friend's List Contest, that the end of the month is looming! If you've forgotten your prompt, you can go look here, with no recrimination whatsoever. Trust me, I'd forget my rear end if it wasn't oh, so firmly attached to the rest of me. And if you want a prompt (even you lurkers - I feel you out there, you can't hide!), you can go there or request one here.

The gift is an itunes gift certificate, (or Best Buy, if you loathe itunes) and I'm even throwing in one of my handmade bags and a Lush Bath Bomb, to boot. So write me a drabble/story/novella! Come on! It'll be fun! This time there's even going to be a second and third place prize. Becasue I'm cool like that.

On another note, this post is so much more positive than the whiny/bitchy one that I started last night and never finished. I love the way these things work out. It's lost forever in internet land, wherever those things go to die, thank goodness.

Lastly, I went to the post office. FINALLY. So [livejournal.com profile] maureen, [livejournal.com profile] leigh_adams, [livejournal.com profile] seegrim and Mother Dear, your packages should be arriving shortly.

And hey, [livejournal.com profile] mynuet! Where ARE you? I feel all stalkery, wondering where you've gone to. I look forward to your D/G hiatus being over, whenever that might be.

Have a lovely week! Happy Monday (even though that's an oxymoron for some of you)!
Many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] elle_blessing , [livejournal.com profile] eustacia_vye , [livejournal.com profile] filia_umbrae  and [livejournal.com profile] goeungurl  for entering January's contest! Jessica and Mylan entered more than once and all the stories were varied and beautiful.   There were some really great drabbles on the replies to THIS POST if you missed it.  Go read and enjoy them.

The winner for this month is [livejournal.com profile] filia_umbrae , for her wistful, angsty, yet hopeful  Booth/Brennan drabble!  Congratulations!  Tell me what colors you prefer for your tote bag prize and I'll get right on it.  You can send your address to persephone3333@gmail.com. :D

And now...
February's Contest!

For the month of luuuurve, and to win a $15 gift certificate to Starbucks, leave in the comments to this post:

your favorite quote about love,

or....

write a drabble about true love, if you're so inspired,
('ships on the january contest post)

or....

make a 'love' icon.

And with your prize, you can buy two and a half cups of fancy coffee. ;)  The entries are due February 28, by midnight.  (Honestly, I go to bed about 10:30, so as long as you get them in before I check my email on the 1st, you're golden. Enter as many times as you like, in a reply to this post.  Only those people on my friends list are eligible.  You can pimp this if you like, but if the folks aren't on my f-list, they can't win.  They are, of course, welcome to friend me and THEN enter.   'Cause I'm all about a way to get around the rules.

Spread the luuuuurrrrrve!  Enter!  Have fun!

I've decided that I'm going to run a little contest for my friends list every month in 2010.  It's fun.  I say YAY!

January's contest: Write me a drabble!

Said drabble has to be at least a hundred words (of COURSE it can be longer, I'm a bit long winded myself) in one of the following fandom categories:
*********
Bones: Booth/Brennan
NCIS: Tony/Ziva
HP: Draco/Ginny, Pansy/Ron
Firefly: River/Jayne, Malcolm/Inara
Supernatural: (Brother fic is fine...but no slash, please)
True Blood: Eric/Sookie, Hoyt/Jessica
Castle: Castle/Beckett
Twilight: Jasper/Alice, Emmet/Rosalie
Friday Night Lights:  Any ship.  I'm not picky.
****************

The winners will receive a handmade tote bag (Made by me - I've made some for several of my friends, ask around, most people like them) as seen here But with MUCH cooler fabrics.  I'll even let the winner choose her (his?) color.

The entries are due January 29, by midnight.  (Honestly, I go to bed about 10:30, so as long as you get them in before I check my email on the 30th, you're golden. Enter as many times as you like, in a reply to this post.  Friends list only are eligible.  You can pimp this if you like, but if the folks aren't on my f-list, they can't win.  They are, of course, welcome to friend me and THEN enter.

Enough rules.  Happy Drabbling!
The boys just left with the sitter, and Nolan and I are about to go do our duty to the theatre by working the yearly special event starring Linda Eder, star of stage...  and stage, I guess.  She was in Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway, and she has a beautiful voice.  So we take tickets at the door and serve champagne to the rich folks, and we still get to see her minus the $250 dollar a ticket price tag.

That's just good math, I say.

After that, we get to go to the gala party afterward, which is lotsa fun.  Open bar, live band, free food...  what could be better?

*grins*  Next weekend, we get to do it all over again for the ALTA awards.  I'm nominated for something or other (don't expect to win, but it really is nice just to be nominated), and it's the same drill.  Except no rich folks, all actors, which is a rocking good time, let me just say.

And my boys leave Monday for 5 days for tennis and golf camp.  And after they come back, it looks like they'll be leaving again to visit their cousins in Colorado.  *wibbles*  Don't know if I can let them go for two weeks in a row.  I might have to revoke my 'beta mom' card.  Hrm.

Last bit of news, we're having fajitas for father's day dinner tomorrow and inviting a ton of folk, so it looks like I'll be cleaning and cooking tomorrow, which is alot like what I did on Mother's Day.  Maybe without the twinge of resentment.

Y'all have a good weekend, you hear? And happy father's day to ... Daniel?  I think you're the only father on my f-list.  And to any an all other lurkers out there.  Live it up on your day, guys!  Stop by for fajitas if you're in town.  :D

Happy Birthday, Celeste!

I hope your day was filled with fun and you get a big ol' piece of cake!

Also happy one year anniversary to
[livejournal.com profile] si_muove_rpg !  It's still the most fun you can have with your clothes on.  ;)

And Nolan is out of surgery (it took an hour and a half longer than they said it would) and resting at the hospital.  I think he'll be able to come home Sunday.  Thank you for your kind words and prayers!  You guys are the best f-list ever!

What a great birthday!

I got so many lovely emails and posts  and comments and facebook thingys!  Sincere thanks to everyone who took time out of their day to post or call or sing!  BIG love to the f-list.  I got a DVD of Season 3 of Friday Night Lights from sweet Jessica and a DVD of Sweeney Todd and some really cool, cute measuring cups from Celeste, and two charms for my bracelet ( a converse shoe and a purse) and all four seasons of The Office on DVD from Nolan.

And my sweet husband took me out to dinner.

We decided to have dinner  at Las Brisas, but neither one of us were really hungry, so we thought, 'appetizers and a bottle of wine, and maybe a movie?' So I decided to get a good bottle of wine.  I chose 1999 d'Arenberg Shiraz: The Dead Arm.  It was on the menu, and it was $29, and I thought, "Meh, it's my birthday."

So they brought it out and decanted it, went through the whole ritual of the cork, and the tasting and the pouring, and then the wine steward came out and spoke to us.

I had half a bottle of wine, so I'm not going to do a word for word repetition of the conversation, but suffice to say, the man had a stutter.  A bad stutter.  And he was using words like "the sexiest wine I've ever had"  and "fruit notes" and "wonderful spiciness."  Nolan said that I was going to hell for all the giggling I did.  He's right.  I'm AWFUL.  But it was FUNNY.

After he left, Nolan and I had this exchange:

Me.  A stuttering sommelier!  My birthday is complete!

Nolan.  (frowns)  Sommelier?

Me.  (explains) Wine steward.

Nolan.  Well I didn't think it was a fancy French word for speech impediment, Carrie.

Then we got the bill.  It turns out that wine was $29 A GLASS!  *faints*  Luckily, Nolan said I was worth a $139 bottle of wine.

YIKES.

Oh, and the Haiku Contest ends tonight at 11:00!

Why do you think I agreed to have it at my house?

Love you all, f-list.  I'm thankful for all of YOU.

Love,

Carrie

So it's the 2 year marker of my paid account... and I get 5 new icons. This makes me giddy and giggly beyond belief for some reason. Any suggestions? I would love to have one from Mary Poppins that says "Practically perfect in every way," like my "extremely stubborn and suspicious," so if anyone runs across one of those, point me in that direction. Funny, celebs, etc... I'm game.

Also, thanks to the f-list for all the smiles and laughs the other day. You guys are the BEST!

I know. It's the sound of nothing.

My company for the weekend just left, Katie's sacked out on the brick floor by my feet, Nolan's taking a nap, and the boys are playing with a cardboard box in the garage. Thousands of dollars worth of toys and what do they play with? A cardboard box. A rock, a hoop and a stick is all they need. Boys.

Anyway. Mom & Tom gave us a housewarming gift of PLANTS! WOO HOO! I planted two big pots with all kinds of fun plants for the front porch, two pots of geraniums on the back porch, and started an herb garden in the backyard. I got my hands dirty. I hoed. I used a shovel. I actually perspired. I might even have a sunburn on my nose.

I was not cut out for manual labor.

As I was pulling the huge rocks and chunks of concrete from the herb garden, earth streaked on my face and cute little sundress splattered with mud, cursing the construction people that obviously didn't pick up after themselves, I had quite the Scarlett O'Hara moment... "As God as my witness I will never weed a flower bed again!"

Or something like that.

It was a little more melodramatic when you were right in the midst of it.

Pictures, anyone? )

Oh. I've been meaning to say. I have an extra copy of Quidditch Through the Ages. (Yes, I'm aware that it makes me a HUGE dork.) I'll mail it to the first person who leaves their address. Or emails their address to persephone3333@gmail.com. :D Ooops! Snagged by Nicole!

Okay. So yes, I have internet. And no, I'm not having to go sit in the public library, or my husband's office, so I'm grateful. But this circa 1980 POS I dug out of the closet is the crappiest thing EVER, in my opinion.  I may set it on fire when something better comes along, just for the sheer, cathartic emotional value.  It takes a full minute to switch between windows, even after I dumped a bunch of the crap that was on it.  But it runs.  *waves hands feebly*   Yay...

It's this POS, or the old laptop, which doesn't have an 's' on the keyboard. *sigh*

So there's that.

Anyway, I'm not complaining.  I'm very grateful to  [personal profile] seegrim and [personal profile] jandjsalmonfor posting things for me while I was down!  (Even though Deans mad at Pansy for leaving him off the guest list!  Yikes!)

Also, I've received Christmas cards from [personal profile] rainpuddle13, [personal profile] caramelsilver, [profile] lyndsiefenele, and a rockin' CD from [profile] reenie1.

Also, thanks to whomever suggested Game 6 to watch on DVD.  [profile] rayneday[profile] reenie1?  I enjoyed it.  :)

I have the best f-list ever.  Thanks, girls.

Sorry to spam the f-list with this, but I need your help, if you don't mind?

One of the stories I want to read for the December podcast is Far off Fields:  A Christmas Tale by Fearthainn.  I've tried contacting her through the website, but sometimes those messages don't go through.  Does anyone know her well enough to send a personal email on my behalf?  Pretty Please?

*bats eyelashes*

Edit:  I got permission!  thanks, [personal profile] mynuet!

So I am that type of control freak that begins thinking about Christmas when the Halloween decorations come out.  Can't be helped.  With the exception of last year, I start shopping for Christmas in August, only because if I did it all in December we'd have no money for, oh, say, food.

In any case, my f-list has grown exponentially this year, and if you like to receive mail, I'd love to send it!  I'll screen these posts, so no one will see your address but me; and really, what am I going to do with it?  Besides send you a Christmas card and the odd note every now and then, of course.  ;)
I love the hug generator on my profile page.  It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.  :)  Everyone should have one.

Hubs and I saw The Bourne Ultimatum last night.  Hubby was a aflutter at the car chases/action sequences/ass kickings.  I was mildly entertained.  That Jason Bourne can really take a beating, though.  He's a bit like the Energizer bunny.  Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.  Wait.  That's a Seiko.  Whatever.  It was alright.  It was shot in an interesting way, but parts of it made me a little dizzy.

I'll be gone Sunday through Thursday for a trip to NYC.  I have tickets to see David Hyde Pierce in Curtains and we'll probably see a couple of more shows while we're there.  I'll take lots of pictures and do a big picspam blog upon my return.

I've realized that in my absence, I'll miss two events; the first is [profile] sue_bridehead's birthday.  So, Happy Birthday, Sue, I hope it's phenomenal and you get everything you want; my best wishes go with you for the upcoming year!  The second event is that Monday, August 6th is my one year anniversary of having this livejournal. *tear*  This makes me very happy!  My love for livejournal was almost instantaneous.  I found my way here originally through reading fan fiction at FIA.  While reading [personal profile] rainpuddle13's and [personal profile] dragonsangel68's stories, they mentioned LJ and once I finally wandered over to see what all the fuss was, I was hooked.  I've met truly fabulous people from all over the world.  There are people on my f-list not only from all over the continental United States, but also Austrailia, Canada, the UK, and Scandanavia, and my life is richer for having met you all.  My f-list has grown exponentially; sitting down with a cup of coffee and reading LJ is one of my favorite things to do in the morning.  I thank you all for blessing me, and I look forward to another fantastic year on livejournal!

Apologies for getting all sentimental.  *sniff*  See you Friday!

You scored as Elizabeth Bennet, As one of Austen's most beloved characters, Elizabeth Bennet represents what most women would like to become: strong, independent, and loyal. Of course, she has her faults including a stubborn will of iron and a clinging to first impressions. Overall, Lizzie is bright and lovable...something to admire and aspire to.

I stole that from [profile] lady_endymion.  *Waves*   It made me extremely happy.

Hey [personal profile] jandjsalmon, after we talked this morning and I said I 'didn't care', I totally dwelled on it for the rest of the day!  However, two more added (today!) for the two that dismissed me, so when God closes a door, he truly does open a window.  That is really cool!
