(Children are eating breakfast - Cocoa Puffs - because Carrie has given up on foods with nutritional value for her offspring until school starts. During this, children are also playing Harry Potter Lego for the X-Box 360)

Aaron. Cool. Look, I can turn into Filch's cat.

Carrie. (glances at screen) Mrs. Norris? Why do you want to turn into Mrs. Norris?

Aaron. I dunno. She's mean? She's a cat. (shrugs) It's a video game, mom.

Ethan. (puts his controller down, scrutinizes his mother) How do you know Filch's cat is named Mrs. Norris? How do you KNOW stuff like that?

Carrie. (has flashback to Bridget Jones' Diary - how does she know? She knows just as one knows their times tables or ABC's - blanket knowledge) I don't know. I just do.

Ethan. (resumes play) Sometimes I think you might be dorkier than we are.

****

Drat. I've been found out.

I really was hoping for a few more years.
Even though I've kind of gone off (the canon of) Harry Potter - I loathed the last book and I haven't seen the latest movie - that didn't stop me from doing this.

I made Butterbeer, y'all.

Oh, yes, I did.

Because I'm THAT dorky. )

And that's all.
  • The boys had an awesome time at golf and tennis camp.  They are tanner and blonder and worn out, but happy.
  • I did some fun shopping with mom, got to cook with my little sister, fix my niece's gorgeous hair, argue the semantics of a properly drawn sun with my nephew, absconded with some custom made pottery from my Tom, drank a bottle of wine with my girlfriend and discovered my BIL's sense of humor.
  • Traffic.  Good heavens.  It took 30 minutes to get out of Arlington today, and another 45 to get out of the metroplex.  How the heck did I ever live there?  I 35 has got to be on one of the rings of hell.
  • Also, the heat.  The heeeeaaat.  The humidity.  The freakin' mosquitoes.  Good heavens above.  My skin may dry out on the caprock, but at least my hair looks good. ;)
  • I slipped an fell (on my face!) on Mom and Tom's deck this morning and I'm a mass of aches and pains.  Man, I feel old.  Knee and shoulder are not working properly, even after having been iced down after it happened.
  • The boys and I listened to Deathly Hallows on the way home.  Six hours of listening to Jim Dale, and we're not even to the 500 page camping trip.  Long winded much, JK?
  • I like Jim's character voices, but his narration voice drives me cuh-razy.  Also, his Hermione voice. "Harrrrryyyyyyyyy!."  Good gracious.  Do people talk like that?
  • Six hours in a car.  I stopped in a drive through for dinner and the boys ran in for a pit stop, but I realized once I was home that I never got out of the car, from Arlington to Amarillo.
  • We got a new mattress while I was away, apparently.  The Carrie and Nolan bed saga (with a MPAA rating of PG)  deserves a post of its own.  For now, I'm going to say, "Um... no."
  • I took two Advil Pm about 30 minutes ago (so I could sleep through the aches and pains from my idiotic fall) and it's like typing with gloves on.  Lots of backspacing.
  • It's good to be home.  I'd say it was great to be in my own bed... but this ain't it.
  • Since I'm about to crash face first into the laptop, (twice in one day on my face would be a bit much, methinks) I'll bid everyone a good night and happy weekend!

So I'm not a fandom hopper. I'm not. I got a livejournal because of Harry Potter fanfiction, and although I'm still a sort of active part of that fandom, I have a new love.

Oh, my heck, y'all. Bones. The T.V. Show. The fanfiction. The characters. I'm HOOKED.

I don't think I've even seen all the episodes, but thank God for TNT. Back to back eps every day. Hee!

And it has nothing whatsoever to do with David Boreanaz. It might have everything to do with Booth, though. I never made it past the second season of Buffy. I tried. (sorry, you BtVS fans. Couldn't do it. Nolan's mocking was loud.) And when watching that. I thought he was cute, if a Angel was a little emo. But Booth (and his belt buckle and his suits)? Very nearly the Perfect Man.

You know, if I wasn't married with the kids and all. And he wasn't... fictional and stuff.

By the by, Christmas was great. The kids made a haul and Nolan got me charms for my bracelet, a watch and *drum roll* A FOOD PROCESSOR. Carrie will no longer have to chop things manually into oblivion. She has MACHINERY to do it for her!

Sorry for slipping into third person. Got a little excited. Anyway, that's it. Just had to squee. Carry on.
lots of mother-indulgent pictures under the cut )

I'm not going to put any spoilers in, not for my f-list, who I'm sure have all finished, but for Mom & Em, who I'm sure havent.  Except for the icon.  *points to icon*  That's the part I'm the most royally upset about, actually.  Funny ol' world, innit?

Hubby actually drove me to Taos, NM (because there isn't a bookstore one in Red River, NM) Saturday morning, and I bought it for FULL PRICE (guh) at a store called Moby Dickens, which may be the best part of the whole experience.  I read the book out loud to the family the whole way home, with voices and everything (I'm rather fond of my Lord Voldemort  voice.  Ralph Fiennes has nothing on me.  =P).  That put us up to chapter seven.

Then I said, "You people have to leave me alone so I can finish this."

And I did.  Last night, in the bathtub, crying like a baby.  Talk about an emotional roller coaster.  I was crying, angry, crying, indignant, crying, joyful, crying, pissed off as all hell.  I gasped, shrieked, yelled at the book, put it down, picked it back up, and finally finished it, crying.  Hubs came in wordlessly and brought me a cup of my favorite tea.  He glanced at the book that had been tossed against the bathroom wall. Then he looked at me, just set down the tea and backed away.

I really could've done without the tacked on epilogue, JKR.  REALLY.

Red River was alright.  Got sick halfway through the last day I was there, but I took some pretty pictures.

The rest of the pics are on my non-digital Nikon...  Probably much better ones.

Don't forget to vote for my story on the [community profile] dgficexchange.  I can't tell you which one was mine, but I'm all proud that I was nominated so many times.  *preens*

I have a vocal audition in a week.  Am a little sick.  Should not get hopes up.
