Except I don't do tequila (Tequilq free since '93!), but daquiriville sounds a little bizarre.

Anyway.

I'm at the beach, updating on an iPad, which is the most trying part of my vacation thus far.

Here's some things I've noticed:

-Dolphins are EVERYwhere down here. People decorate with the foul things. Ugh.
-Vacations elicit more activity than being home does. Swimming, biking, walking on the beach... All good.
-Sandcastles are serious business. Don't be fooled into thinking otherwise.
-The Hunger Games trilogy can be read in 36 hours, if you've nothing else pressing on your time. I loved it, apart from the first person-present tense-fragmented sentences nightmare. And who is Suzanne Collins? Real or not real? The fact that it's marketed as a children's book horrified me, a little. Thoughts?

That's it. I have to go make myself presentable for dinner out, and finish a glass of wine. Life is trying, here in paradise.

☂ It's the anniversary of the Allies invasion of Normandy, but more to the point of this post, it's my wedding anniversary. Thirteen years ago, [livejournal.com profile] nolankyle and I were married and then proceeded to re-enact storming the beaches of France and a World War II-like battle for the next four years. Fortunately, we achieved peace just shy of nuclear detonation. Good Times.

☂ Summer rocks. I have lain by the pool with a book for the last week, while my kids exhausted themselves playing soccer, basketball, swimming and diving. Life does not get better than that.

☂ There were two wildfires last week; they burned hundreds of acres of land to the north and south of my house, and I can see all of the charred earth when I step outside my front door. We need rain. In a BIG, big way.

☂ The Opening titles of Game of Thrones are mesmerizing. It's like the Sesame Street mini-documentary on making crayons - I can't look away.

☂ I'm still slogging through the Outlander series. Seriously, the woman is wordy to the point of distraction. She uses a hundred words when four would really do - but I still stayed up until 1 am this morning finishing the fourth. So I guess I like them. Really, I like the characters, not the book.

☂ The first six minutes of the new season of True Blood looks... interesting. Here's the link, if you're curious.

☂ My twenty year high school reunion is in October. Twenty. Years. That makes me a little nauseated, frankly, for two reasons. One: Twenty years, and two, twenty damn years. Ugh. I hope I'm at least thin by then.

I just finished reading The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd.  I recommend it.  It's moving.  I was crying behind my sunglasses at the pool.

This passage, in particular, struck me.

"People, in general, would rather die than forgive.  It's that hard.  If God said in plain language, "I'm giving you a choice, forgive or die," a lot of people would go ahead and order their coffin."

Huh.  So true.  That's something to think about, isn't it?

So I'm leaving today with my sweet family to spend some time on the east coast for a week.

We'll be back on Monday the 24th, and due to my husband being a gigantic grinch, we won't have internet access after we leave my sister's house (Thursday).  So I'm going to miss the stories posted to the fic exchange this week (*pout*).  And [profile] caliga_rpg!  Oh, my goodness, I've done all of three scenes this week and I miss it already.  Eeek!  [profile] numbabyand [personal profile] seegrim, you can write me out of that last one if you want, or use that's already there. *sniff*

I might actually have to read a BOOK.  Wow.  What a concept.

1.  I am going to see Rick Springfield in concert on Friday.  When my husband showed me the tickets I squealed like a 13 year-old girl.  I don't care if he's sixty - I've still got a crush!  YAY!  Rick Springfield!  WOOO HOOOO!

2.  I sent out *gulp* thirty-one invitations to my five year-old's birthday party.  I feel a little nauseated.  I keep telling myself, "He's worth it.  They won't all come.  He's worth it."

3.  My first grader got in the car after school today and he said, (with much distaste) "I got attacked by girls today.  I just tripped and fell and they jumped on me."  My first thought was "What kind of school are they running over there?" and then, "In 10 years you'll wish they'd jump on you."  Neither of which I said out loud.

4.  For the last five years or so I've been reading a cozy mystery series by Nancy Atherton.  The "Aunt Dimity" series.  They are such a sweet read, you don't have to think very much, and everything always ends happily.  I got the most recent one today and I'm sad I'm not going to get to read it til after I get home from teaching my class and rehearsal.

5.  I wrote 6 more pages last night.  I'm getting there.  We've acheived catburglary!

That's it.  Happy Monday!
