persephone33: (Some guys/arsenic)
( May. 17th, 2010 02:29 pm)
So the month of May is a little more than halfway over, there are just two weeks of school left, Memorial day is just around the corner, and spring is busting out all over in West Texas!

I just wanted to remind all of you that asked for a prompt for May's Friend's List Contest, that the end of the month is looming! If you've forgotten your prompt, you can go look here, with no recrimination whatsoever. Trust me, I'd forget my rear end if it wasn't oh, so firmly attached to the rest of me. And if you want a prompt (even you lurkers - I feel you out there, you can't hide!), you can go there or request one here.

The gift is an itunes gift certificate, (or Best Buy, if you loathe itunes) and I'm even throwing in one of my handmade bags and a Lush Bath Bomb, to boot. So write me a drabble/story/novella! Come on! It'll be fun! This time there's even going to be a second and third place prize. Becasue I'm cool like that.

On another note, this post is so much more positive than the whiny/bitchy one that I started last night and never finished. I love the way these things work out. It's lost forever in internet land, wherever those things go to die, thank goodness.

Lastly, I went to the post office. FINALLY. So [livejournal.com profile] maureen, [livejournal.com profile] leigh_adams, [livejournal.com profile] seegrim and Mother Dear, your packages should be arriving shortly.

And hey, [livejournal.com profile] mynuet! Where ARE you? I feel all stalkery, wondering where you've gone to. I look forward to your D/G hiatus being over, whenever that might be.

Have a lovely week! Happy Monday (even though that's an oxymoron for some of you)!
"Plot" as used here is not a euphemism for "backside," but as it happens, that's thickening, too, now that you mention it.

Nothing to see here... )

Because I'm whimsical and kinda sweet and fun and maybe a little bored, I'm going to be doing Drabble Scenes From a Hat: The Writing Edition!

You can choose:

Genre: Drama, romance, melodrama, adventure, angst, hurt/comfort, fantasy, friendship, romance, humor...etc.

Place:  on the roof, in the rain, on the floor, in a bed, on a balcony, in the woods, in the gym, in a barn, on a playground, in a hotel, in a graveyard, in the kitchen, in a pool, in a cave, on a couch, in a hot tub, in the snow, by the fireplace, in bed, in the office, the the stirs, in the shower, in the elevator, in a tent, at a restuarant....  or one of your choosing.

Pairing
:  Bones: Booth/Brennan,  NCIS: Tony/Ziva, HP: ** Draco/Ginny, Pansy/Ron, Firefly:  Malcolm/Inara, Supernatural: (Brother fic only), True Blood: Eric/Sookie, Hoyt/Jessica, Castle: Castle/Beckett, Merlin:  Arthur/Gwen.

I reserve the right to play with point of view and tense.  Because I am tyrannical in my control.  Muahaha.  Ha.

Okie doke!  Go on, request something fun.

**And if you request D/G, know that [info]mynuet  will be dragged right along into it, because she's the D to my G, for sure.
I finished my [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange story.

Can I get a Hallelujah?

I think that might be the last D/G I write by myself, that is, one not RPG style. I'm interested in the Bones and Big Bang Theory fandoms lately; I've been lurking around over there pretty regularly for a month or more. They seem like nice people.

Anyway, that's finished, so I went ahead and got all creative and made Easter egg cake truffles.

You know you want to see. )

SO... I've been very productive. Now, what to write next?

P.S. Five more days until my lent fast of no bread, meat and sweets is ovah! Woot! Come on, Easter! (And the celebration of Christ's ressurection, obviously, not just so I can chow down on a cheeseburger.)
10,291 words of murkily plotted, ill-conceived, tense challenged crap, with no clear cut ending in sight.

4 days to go.

Go, me.
I'm an IDIOT.

For those of you who know me, this is an unsurprising bit of news.

I was getting discouraged about the lack of interest in the TIme Turner Contest at [livejournal.com profile] ginnylovesdraco ; I mean, I was mopey, thinking 'nobody loves me, nobody cares, the prizes were crap, it was a stupid prompt,' and then I remembered: THERE'S A CONTEST EMAIL THAT IS SEPARATE FROM MY OWN.

*headdesk*

Judges, I'll send out the entries ASAP. There are a few, but not an overwhelming amount, so don't worry.

It's DECEMBER! Holy crap, when did that happen?
Hey, all you Draco/Ginny shippers!

[livejournal.com profile] rainpuddle13 has graciously turned the reins of the [livejournal.com profile] ginnylovesdraco community over to me for a bit so I can bring you:

The Great Draco and Ginny Fic Contest, Winter 2009!

As in years past, it'll be a contest where your anonymously submitted story will be read and judged by a panel of Draco/Ginny shippers, with first, second and third places receiving REAL prizes. :D

Keep your eyes peeled for more information... I'm making some decisions and pondering themes, and looking for prizes to get before I announce the contest proper. And seriously, I'm so excited I could scream. :D

I got all 'Little House on the Prairie' again. :D  I went from gorgeous, perfectly ripe apricots...

To beautiful jars of jam... all within a few hours, and for less than $8.  Move over, Ma Ingalls.  I got it covered.

Rather than give you the step by step, which you can see here, I thought I'd share a bulleted list of  other random stuff:
  • [livejournal.com profile] seegrim  and I are going to rock the Mile High Music Festival this weekend.  I've been writing with the woman for nearly two years, talking to her nearly every day since December of '07, and spending hours and hours on the phone.  It's about time I met her face to face!
  • It's raining.  Hallelujah.
  • I fell while on my walk yesterday (oh, yeah, I'm graceful) & my hand is messed up.  Silly Carrie.
  • I've clocked something like 140 miles walked since the beginning of May.  Get smaller, rear end!
  • I get my grey roots colored tomorrow.  Seriously.  SERIOUSLY.  Enough with the 'growing old' crap.
  • I've been doing lots of painting, lately.  It's SO good for me. I love it.  Soothes my chi or whatever.
  • I've also been doing lots of writing.  I entered the [livejournal.com profile] ronpansy_fest  with [livejournal.com profile] seegrim  and the [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange  with [livejournal.com profile] mynuet , and both are pretty solid efforts.  I was pleased.  So YAY for that.
  • I was a runner up in the [livejournal.com profile] dg_ldws  this round.  Was fun and challenging.  I learned that I'm too wordy for a limit.
  • five weeks til I have to stand next to my SIL in a swimsuit.  I wish phenfen didn't cause me to die. :(
  • six weeks til my punks go back to school.  Come on, August.
Tell me something cool, f-list.  What's been happening?

Now if THAT's not something for everyone, I don't know what is. :)

I made a Dutch Baby for breakfast this morning, and I can tell it's going to be one of those things I whip up on a moment's notice from henceforth when I want a decadent breakfast. It was fabulous. Completely fabulous. Because I love you all, I'll give you the how-to under the cut.
Recipe adapted from 'Joy the Baker'. : )

After you make one of those for yourself, you must watch this. I've never seen anything quite like it. You have to make it through their weird potato salad song, but about :50 second mark, it gets eye-opening.

And I won the[livejournal.com profile] dg_ldws 6th round this week! I'm into the semifinals. Wish me luck. :)

Click the picture and go vote for your favorite and least favorite. It'll only take a minute!

Goodness gracious.  I really didn't think I'd make it this far.  Gooood prompt next week, though.  Looking forward to it.

I'm in Arlington tonight and we're scooping up the boys and headed home in the morning.  Have a good weekend, all.

My boys have gone with their grandparents to our Cabin in Childress until Thursday, so I'm on my own until then, and I'm sitting here, crying into my coffee because I miss them so much.

*snort of epic proportions*

No really, I love my kids; but I adore being alone.

In other news, the economic crisis has hit us, and hard. Nolan has had to lay off 15 of our employees in the last two months, and he feels like a failure, as if the lack of work available is somehow his fault. Intellectually, he knows it isn't, but he still feels responsible for the men and their families. He even went so far as to call around to other contractors, to find them jobs, and that was met with varying degrees of acceptance. I told him that he had to cut them a little slack, they'd been fired and had worries of their own. He's stressed and grumpy and stressed. Did I mention stressed? I keep telling him it's going to be okay; even if we have to downsize and sell the cars and move, he'll still have me and the boys, and we're all healthy. We're blessed. I don't know what more I can do for him.

In writing news, I am still plugging along at [livejournal.com profile] dg_ldws; it's a lot harder than I thought it would be, this drabble writing business. I've got one staring at me that's due tonight, and I'm simply not moved. That's always been my problem. My muse doesn't perk up on demand, and she gets distracted oh, so easily.

On the up side, I have lots of time and quiet to bang out 450 words. I think I'm also going to hit the shops and buy myself some new tennis shoes today. (Workout shoes? I don't play tennis, that's just always what I've called them.) The five miles a day is killing my feet.

So, have a lovely Tuesday, friends. I'm off to not hear children bickering for a few days. :)

So we have a new addition to the family.

She's so sweet.
Dogs make you smile more. Did you know? True story. )

Edit: And don't forget to vote at [profile] dg_ldws! I dare you to guess which one is mine. You totally won't be able to, I'm so stealthy. ;)

And let me just say, I should never go without a beta.  Ever.  Even with 435 words.  :P

They were all great drabbles, if you want to read them, go here. :)

lots of mother-indulgent pictures under the cut )

I attempted this last night, but el-jay thwarted me.  I am resilient, however, and sallied forth to persevere through that punk Frank eating my stuff.

Lots and lots and lots of words... )
